Apple Maps transit directions come to Tucson, Arizona

Thanks to behind-the-scenes updates, visitors and residents of Tucson, Ariz. can now use Apple Maps to figure out public transit directions across the city.

SunTran riders can get detailed information on stops, route numbers, departure times, and any walking involved in navigating their route. Amtrak routes were already available, thanks to separate information from the nationwide rail network.

Much of Apple's transit support is focused in the U.S., though there is also extensive support in China, Japan, Ireland, and the U.K. Even countries like Canada only have a handful of covered cities, and many regions -- such as France -- have just a single city if any.

Last year the company began adding indoor maps for major international airports, making it easier to find gates and amenities. Apple is expected to grow its indoor mapping efforts through 2018 and beyond.

Oh, Glory! Apple has added another city’s transit directions! The one geriatric on a bicycle that travels to each city to make this happen really earns her cash.  At this rate her great great grandchildren will have enabled transit for half of America’s cities! How wonderful!

    Woohoo!

I know Tucson is considered a third rate city by the internetopia.  But for those of us who live here it’s considered “the biggest little town” you can find anywhere.  It’s geographically very spread out (big sky country you know with a glorious mountain backdrop) but with a small town atmosphere.

If you don’t have a car getting by around ain’t easy.  Apple maps pulling all this local data together is a big deal for us locals.  The city government doesn’t make it easy to look up these kind of things.

Feels a bit pointless to creating a news item for each Apple maps server-side update, since that must be an ongoing process they are working on?

Any transit above the river and East of Craycroft?   What about Fort Huachucha  & Nogo-- when do they get Apple Maps Transit info?

Making this a news item is in fact bad news for Apple. Expanding the service on a global level just proves to be horrible slow.

At Apple's current speed, about 2118.  I just checked my city again, no transit in Apple Maps.  Google's had transit here for years.
