It looks like you now get a lock just for having an opinion and a bit of fun, not just posting in the wrong forums.

I expect you also get a lock for not following the posting guidelines.

If you feel the moderator who locked your thread has erred in locking it, email or private message the moderator or an administrator about it. Do not create a new thread protesting the lock, or a thread in Suggestions about it.

Why shouldn't I vent my frustrations in public?

You'll get us locked if you talk like that. All I'm asking is that if I am not posting in the wrong forum and asking genuine, even fun questions why should I get a lock just because the admins don't like the topic. Why can't the topic be left to just fade away when people are fed up with it?

you should PM such stuff directly to whom it concerns, not creating a new thread.

edit: and how can you say that such stuff gets the thread locked when you are the one who posted it originaly...

Don't worry, I'm a Junior Member, so my comments will be ignored anyway.

I was taking the mick about us being locked, although I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.

please remember you are a guest here...this is a great site, enjoy it and have a good time...let the moderators move or lock threads to their hearts content and keep reading and posting and enjoying this site as a guest...if you aren't having fun or enjoying it, then stop coming...it is really a simple system...i see locked threads as a badge of honor...having threads moved i see as my stupidity for not thinking of where my post should go first...g

there are lots of things to do each day...getting mad at the mods at AI shouldn't be one of them...

    RodUK and Defiant are right.

We have <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/guidelines.html"; target="_blank">posting guidelines</a> for a reason. Read them at least once so you'll be familiar with what we expect from members. Specifically, look down at the bottom about Suggestions.

The moderators here work pretty hard trying to run a tight ship, keeping the forums clean of repetetive topics, topics in the wrong forum, topics that turn to flamewars, and topics that are just nonsensical. We actually enjoy reading and posting on these forums and don't want it to fall to anarchy like other forums (MacNN come first to mind) often tend to do. Sometimes we may seem heavy fisted, but we have our reasons. We've been around here much longer than you and are pretty familiar with how various kinds of threads develop.

We make judgment calls. That's our job. Openly criticizing us here not only makes us look bad, at also makes you look bad for not following the guidelines or for just being a "rebel" and the quality of the site itself gets just a little worse as a result.

Making sarcastic comments like "I'm a Junior Member, so my comments will be ignored anyway." doesn't exactly help either. We'll listen to anyone that has a serious, legitimate complaint whether he has five posts or five thousand posts. Of course, we're more likely to pay better attention to such complaints if they are formed in a mature fashion and sent in the proper fashion.

That said, the only reason I'm posting this here instead of sending it to you in a private message is because you *are* a new member and I'm in a good mood this morning. In the future, please do keep these kinds of comments to the Private Message system. It also may help if you enable "Be notified by email when someone sends you a private message" in your profile screen so that you will be better informed as to when we respond.

    OK OK my mistake.

-"The moderators here work pretty hard trying to run a tight ship, keeping the forums clean of repetetive topics"-

Can you honestly say this is true? IBM970 threads spring to mind.

BTW I'm not trying to be a rebel or bring you down to the awful level of MacNN or Macosrumors, but I have been a lurker for a few years now and you guys need to lighten up a little. Out of all the moderators though Brad is genuine in his comments and some of his mac tips are very good.

I'm sorry I'm not as technical as some of you guys either, but Mac's are supposed to be about user experience and peoples perception of them.

I should start a thread about why the mac market is shrinking and how we can reverse it. But being a novice I dare not post it in case it gets locked for being repetetive.

Can I have some idea of what topics are deemed non repetitive and I'll try to be a good poster from now on.

    Thanks Brad.

cool, hamfist....as a long time lurker you must like it here...there are reasons for that...the mods can be a pain, but hey, they're our pain...and most of the time they are actually invisible (except grover, but he is the mod at AO and as such has free reign to run wild like a beast through the underbrush...and murbot when he is drinking is a hoot...the mods all have their own distinct personalities and strengths (and weakness)....i see that as a good thing....as for "hard working"...hell, for the pay (nada) they work damn hard...definetly not a job i could do, so i appreciate that they do....g

Well, this thread's on a fast train to hell.

We do try to run a fairly tight ship, but we will miss things, and make judgments that some of the members don't agree with. That's inevitable. Future Hardware in particular tends to be rather messy, so we tend to be less tolerant of off-topic threads in that forum than in, say, Software.

Nevertheless, if you have a specific complaint, please contact the moderator directly, or an administrator. We do listen to members, regardless of the number of posts.
