YouTube rolls out dark theme first to iPhone & iPad app

Google on Tuesday began rolling out a "Dark Theme" for its YouTube mobile apps, initially only to iPhone and iPad owners.




The option can be found by tapping on the user account icon, then Settings, The Next Web noted. When available, the toggle is located at the top of the "YouTube" section. Android support is promised in the near future.

For most iPhone and iPad users, the Dark Theme should simply make the app easier on the eyes, especially at night. Due to the way OLED works though, iPhone X owners should benefit from reduced power consumption as well.

Google often brings mobile improvements to iOS first, despite it having a vested interest in the success of Android, and its rivalry with Apple. This may be an acknowledgement of the popularity of iPhones, particularly in the U.S., where both Apple and Google are based.

    Or they just realize iOS users care more about design. Whatever the reason though, it's good news. I often listen to YouTube vids in bed and don't appreciate being dazzled when I want to switch to something else.

    Not seeing the setting here. Perhaps it's not available in some areas.

    It's only rolling out gradually.

    You have to force-quit the app and relaunch. Then the toggle will be visible in the settings.

    And here I thought an app was always automatically quit before being updated. Guess not! That explains why I never saw the option until following the instructions provided by Tuubor.

    Just used it for the first time and it’s pretty cool and a nice option to have, hopefully more apps do the same.
