LOL, this would be awfully easy to fake, but it's so absurd and ridiculous that it seems like an odd waste of time for someone to fake it.

Problems:

1. The guy says there's a seal on the side panel, but he doesn't bother to take a photo of it. Duh.

2. His experience is only looking over his boss's shoulder, but he's seen the About this Mac dialogue. If he's seen that, then why not the System Profiler? Hrrmmmm.....

3. This thing has been in the guy's office for a full year. If the G5 has been in testing for so long, then why didn't we see it at MWSF?

If this is true, then we'll be seeing G5s at MWNY for sure. But I rather doubt the report.

I still think G5s will be here between MWNY and MWSF, but not because of this pic.

That picture is hysterical. "I'll photoshop an old B&W G3 case, and no one will be the wiser! Bwahahahaha!!"

This photo is from the user-submitted gallery, where anyone can submit any photos. This isn't an actual Spymac 'stolen from Cupertino's secret underground G5 case design headquarters' or anything. There's plenty of equally-ridiculous shots there.

    Ha, ha, ha!!

That's a photo of my G3! In my closet! In my house!

Hey ... wait a minute... what's this? Hold on a sec here... there is a seal on this thing! Oh my lord! This is a G5!!! I can't believe I didn't notice it until now! Wow, this thing is fast!

Oh wait, no, it's just a G3. Darn.

Of course it's untrue. Just by the article itself it's obvious. Also I don't think Apple sends out pre-production products to testers for a years trial. Spymac is a parody of rumor sites, except how to you parody a parody to begin with?

Let's start a new site called

    Gullible's Travels!

Now that's an interesting question. I think Spymac has managed to do this by giving such an extreme mix of content that you really have to wonder what is true or not; its purpose. One day they will have the fake iWalk, the next they will have real info on something, then the next day still they will publish a surprisingly well-written review of some unreleased program.

So how do you parody a parody? If a parody is "A literary or artistic work that imitates the characteristic style of an author or a work for comic effect or ridicule" than, I suppose, by publishing two extremes (obviously fake and obviously real) Spymac pushes what is expected of a rumor site to such an extreme that it almost becomes left-wing (Remember that far right wing and far left wing should be viewed as two ends of a horse-shoe, not two opposing points on a straight line) while maintaining the inherent "crazyness" of a rumor page.

By Swiss law you could sue SpyMac now and would 100% surely win and get them a fine anywhere from 1000 to 10'000 dollars.

They offend copyrights, personality, media laws for correctnes of the info, etc etc.

    They're walking dangerous paths...

Spotbug, are you sure nobody's been sneaking around your house when you're away? Maybe some Mac freak broke in your house, saw the G5, and starting shooting pics!

HA ha, that's so funny, Spymac made up the story about the G5 being owned by someone's "boss".

iWalk was bad enough, but this is ludicrous. Spymac is pure fiction, and actually quite funny if you approach the site as such.

I don't mind the advertising on any of the rumor sites... except:

    THINK SECRET!

That place has turned into a giant bilboard. Text sponsors, side banners, top banners, even pop-ups now. I hope Mr. "DePlume" is making some nice money for the amount of crap we have to wade through.

There's a vast difference between a fan page of the likes of <a href="http://www.geocities.com/~whyIlovemacs"; target="_blank">www.geocities.com/~whyIlovemacs</a> and a site that somehow claims credibility by demanding somekind of professionalism.

If a Mac fan says: "I wish we had a G5 in our office", that's fine. If a "professional" site like Spymac says things like " we saw..our insider sources...exclusive pics etc" that is something completely different.

The most compelling thing is clearly the abuse of the picture that wasn't made by them, and was used without permission, yet sold as a "genuine" evidence photo.

Now I'm aware it was just posted in the boards, thus they can take it with a grain of salt and aren't to blame really, but as soon as it turned out what the pic's history really is, they should pull it.

As for the Swiss laws being full of holes:

the joke is old, and the statement wrong, especially out of the mouth of a US citizen.

Btw: as far as I know Spymac is at least partially German, and their press laws are very similar to ours.
