Looks like Apple is making a major move to fast charging at the same level as Andoid based phones had three years ago!

Android makers do something when it's stupid to do it... So, hey. Just like Samsung got OLED out and it was a garish mess.
Fast charging can wreck your battery if not done well.

Where’s all that new battery tech that popped up at the beginning of this decade? You know, the month-long batteries and the 100,000 cycle stuff. How long did Li-ion take from first working concept to consumer application?

We see new battery technology every few months, but rarely does it result in a production capable product. I could design and build a leading edge battery in my shops, but could never get it to work beyond the hand made samples.

it took almost a decade before modern lithium batteries made it out of the very expensive low power versions we began to see in computer backup modules.

the current versions are all based on the work done at the Argonne National,Laboratories by Dr. Goodenough, over 15 years ago. A second generation version was developed just a few years after that one, but has never been at production quality. That’s over 10 years now.

As far as quick charging goes, it requires a battery that’s specific, lay designed for it. It needs to withstand a lot more heat, and have a small ration of expansion to,heat output. Those are more expensive, as expected.

if a manufacturer simply delivers quick charging with regular batteries, you can expect much shorter battery life, as much as by half.
