Yes, it is. My G3 (just to be clear ) has a SCSI PCI card. I've had that Zip drive for four years (maybe more). When I bought my G3, I wanted to continue to use it. Of course, that was almost three years ago; I don't think I've used that Zip drive in over a year.
It wouldn't be totally ridiculous for even a prototype G5 to (be able to) have a SCSI card.
