Beats competeing with Sennheiser (Bose is not high quality sorry, but someone does not seem to know basics of audiphile). That sounds funny. Maybe on cool cords and colors, but not on sound quality for sure. Try the best Beats with worst Sennheiser side by side and learn facts. Been using Sennheisers for decade discaring all Apple fancy earphones and others as low quality. Apple can talk with Sennheiser as leader and expert in this area, but gaining expertise is not something Apple can do overnight. Entering this market is not just matter of cool ideas and energy of wannabe or money. just check lineup of Sennheiser and how many firms already tried.
Oh dear, there it is again Ok here you go:
“We’ve learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone,” he said. “PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.”
So noise canceling isn’t a natural progression of AirPods but has to be some pro version where they can charge more money?
Something with an AirPods like design can’t be noise canceling. Please stop acting so foolish. Apple made the EarPods design so air can flow through easily. It makes it much more comfortable to wear than the competition.
”The Cupertino, California-based company is working on new AirPods with noise-cancellation and water resistance, the people said. Apple is trying to increase the range that AirPods can work away from an iPhone or iPad, one of the people said. You won’t be swimming in them though: The water resistance is mainly to protect against rain and perspiration, the people said.”
Ouch! That left a mark!
Nope, it really didn't. The guy quoting the post still hasn't understood what racerhomie3 wrote.
rogifan_new asked why "noise canceling isn’t a natural progression of AirPods but has to be some pro version where they can charge more money?".
The answer still remains that the current AirPods form factor is not good for turning it into noise cancelling buds, and it will take a redesign and advanced features
Whether those are still called AirPods is irrelevant (and obviously Apple will want to reuse an already iconic name). But whether they're called AirPods or not, models with noise cancelling will need new components and new design - and thus are going to have to cost more money anyway (not just because of some "greed").
It isn't a stretch to see the possibility of multiple AirPod models (branding aside): - Update to current AirPods (improved battery life, range, hands-free "hey siri", BT 5...). Price could drop a bit (e.g. $129) - or not - currently the best on market. - New, higher-end AirPods. Similar to current look, but with advanced design/features for a level of noise-cancellation, health sensors (heart rate, temperature,...) - New, high end, over-ear Apple branded headphones. Super-long battery life, range, top notch audio quality, fresh design,
Hell, if they only introduce new AirPods in additional colours they would keep the ball rolling...
A higher end redesigned AirPod with noise cancelling will cost more than the current ones. Look at similar products from Bose and Sony: cost more. that does not preclude current ones dropping in price and the higher spec version filling that space, but I doubt it.
Noise cancelling isn't going to happen. Not with the pods designed as they are now. Even if posible, I'd rather have the increased battery capacity that would, otherwise, be used up by noise cancelling.
I too would like to see Apple provide some optional "skins" for the AirPod that are also fully compatible with the charging pod. I know third parties offer skins but they must be taken off to put the AirPods back into their charging pod.
Speaking of the charging pod, I think it is way too minimalist and looks exactly like a dental floss container. In case nobody in Apple's design studio has noticed (probably because they are held captive in the studio for security reasons) dental floss containers are not considered high fashion accessories. Would putting an Apple logo on the charging pod, perhaps molded in white, keep Mr Ive from ever sleeping soundly again? While they're at it, how about some colors on both the AirPods and the charging pod? I know, I know, this is all crazy talk and it's not like the Emperor doesn't enjoy the airy feel of of his clothes, but there may actually be a lower threshold on just how aesthetically bland and amorphous one can make an object look before it loses all hope of inspiring its owners. Perhaps people who collect and lovingly display nearly-used-up bars of soap are crazy about the charging pod, but for me it's about the blandest and least inspiring blob of plastic encased technical wizardry I've ever seen. It does however create a refrigerator light conundrum: does the little green light stay ON when the cover is closed? Hmmm.

You’re nuts. The case is a perfect object and one that gravitates toward my hand. Operating the lid is extremely satisfying. It fits perfectly in my pocket with no hard edges, and I don’t need more logos in my life.
How about adding left and right graphic equalizer along with software to adjust dynamically for my 2 parents and 10 million more with hearing loss? Disinter-mediate the hearing aid industry. It will be a killer app. Noise cancellation too as a bonus. As a former ultrasound-acoustics engineer, there is no reason why noise cancellation wouldn't work with current packaging. Give me access to the source code... I'd be honored to write the app.
I wish this device was totally waterproof. I mean not only protection from rain. It would be great to be able to swim with it. It would be a real treasure to me.

Leave the designing to the pros, my friend.
New headphones? New AirPods that do more and thus cost more? You don't say.
