Accessory maker Nomad has released a new genuine Shell Cordovan leather strap just in time for the Apple Watch Series 4.

Shell Cordovan, a high-end leather often used in shoes or wallets, is a rarity in the Apple Watch strap market, though not unseen. It takes a long time to create, six-months in the case of Horween -- the Chicago leather tannery used by Nomad.

Each band is handcrafted during a six-month tanning process, sewn together with Fil Au Chinois beeswax linen thread, and finished with 316L gauge stainless steel lugs and buckle. Like other leathers, it wears over time, creating a unique look and patina through the aging process.

Nomad's custom lugs that are a bit bulkier than most that we've seen and as a result, give the Apple Watch a slightly different shape. These limited edition straps also have a unique design on the underside showing the raw finish of the Shell Cordovan leather.

The new Shell Cordovan Apple Watch straps are available for the 42mm and 44mm Apple Watch models and come exclusively in black.

They can be purchased now from Nomad's website for $149.95.

Fully expected to see a price tag of $599 after reading all of that. I guess if it were from Apple it would be.

Apple’s leather buckle strap which also touted an esteemed tannery was also $149.

Cordovan leather is made from horse hides. Particularly the rear end area. This does look like a nicely made strap though. @ $149 it may seem a bit expensive, but its not that out of line with other high-end watch straps used on traditional mechanical watches.

I wasn’t aware that watch strap makers could augment the physical structure of watch by adding this kind of lug buuut... it’s way more masculine looking. I wouldn’t say it looks like a TAG but it’s heft is a lot more attractive ... and similar somehow.

How nomad makes/sells this given thier other offerings (BestBuy) is a mystery.

150$ is nothing for someone looking for an interesting watch or watch band.

This will go nicely with the Stainless (Gold) AW4 w/ Gold Milanese Loop band I have on order (arrives Oct 24 - Oct 31.  I ordered the AW4 and iPhone Xs Max 256Gb (also Gold) on the same day.  The iPhone arrived this last Saturday 5 days after being ordered.

I hadn't ordered any "Gold" Apple products in the past because I thought the "Gold" looked like something a teenage girl would like.  The current Gold color looks much better than previous iterations.

Every high end leather goods manufacturer would really be missing the boat by not having some kind of Apple Watch straps.
