macOS Mojave fixes problems with DisplayLink multiple monitor drivers

The ability to connect multiple extended DisplayLink monitors is fully functional in macOS Mojave after being impossible in later versions of macOS High Sierra, the creator of the format has confirmed.

The technology has been working in Mojave betas since July 30, DisplayLink said. The company is currently testing a beta of its v5.0 Mac software, and says it plans to release the finished version when Mojave ships on Sept. 24.

The release of macOS 10.13.4 in April broke multi-monitor setups based on DisplayLink, causing screens to go black. The problem has persisted through 10.13.6, even though secondary features like sound and Ethernet should work.

In the interim DisplayLink has encouraged people to use its v4.3 software, which has a workaround enabling a single extended display.

DisplayLink has become a fundamental technology in the computer industry, used in some USB-connected monitors, docks, and other adapters. It lets people output video over USB, instead of having to rely exclusively on formats like HDMI and DisplayPort.

DisplayLink has no relation to alternate modes in the USB-C protocol allowing for HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity, or video-out ports in Thunderbolt 3 docks.

Finally! (the hubs at work are displaylink unless you are lucky enough to get one of the elgato thunderbolt docks)

Can we get DisplayPort 1.2 daisy chaining, too, please? Please?

About time. I've been on two monitors at work for 6 months now. Will be great to have the 3rd not staring at me blank again.

I updated to the Mojave beta as soon as I got my 2018 MBP. I have one monitor connected with a usb-c to HDMI connector, and one with usb-c to mini DisplayPort. iirc, neither worked at all. downgraded to high Sierra and everything works fine. hope that's fixed before the release.

It's been working on High Sierra with a beta version of DisplayLink software for several months now. It was readily available on their site

Never heard of DisplayLink until this month. Doesn't seem to have much of a future with UBB-C/Thunderbolt taking off on PCs.

Hopefully this means Duet Display can get their iPad as a monitor software working the correct way again. Since 10.13.4 they’ve had to use an AirPlay hack workaround and it’s been terrible.

Angersome. Version 5 beta is black screening (with a cursor) in 10.14 build 18A389.

I have updated to Mojave, and while the displays now detect output, all I get is a cursor and when I drag a window over to that display, it disappears. The external displays are black _except_ they still show the mouse cursor. So frustrating.....Apple needs to get it together.....

I've heard that's the case with non-2018 models of Macbook. Unfortunately I have the newer version....

More garbage patches from Apple, not only it does NOT fix the black screen issue but now after the second monitor wakes up from sleep or the user logs back in from a locked screen all open windows that were on the second monitor are moved to the main monitor.... CrApple....

.. how is Apple responsible for third-party software that relied on undocumented and unsupported system calls working?
