I have seen something similar many times with Kaiser as well in Southern California. For me, it happens when I just search Kaiser and not Kaiser Permanente.  Also can happen when you end up getting departments rather than buildings...

As much as I would like it to be otherwise, Volcan’s complaint is real and fully reproducible where I live too. There’s no point in attacking Volcan because he “dares” to note that Apple services are not perfect… because: they clearly aren’t.

Also: while I’d very much like to avoid using Google Map, I have no choice but use it. It’s fun to see all these guys in SF. At this point in time, SF must have near-perfect mapping in Apple Map. Unfortunately, where I live, Apple’s maps are still replete with errors and outdated data, more than 6 years after their debut. (And I’ve sent my fair share of bug reports.) Apple Guys and Cars are nowhere to be seen, but should. Some roads build three years ago are still not updated. How can Apple expect anyone to use their service? Hey, Apple, there’s a whole world outside SanFran!

Looks like that guy is at Stockton and Sutter.   Pretty safe area.
Maybe detailing the street closure there by the Apple store?

Just to give Apple Maps a little love here: I was recently in Budapest and was delighted to see Apple Maps had walking and transit directions there. They were excellent. I compared them to Google the entire time and Apple Maps was actually better! At one point I was in a park and Google told me to take a right down a path but in real life it led to the edge of a cliff. How embarrassing for them! Apple Maps had the more accurate route — the path was exact and true to real life, and directed me to a real place and not to a cliff edge. I think when Apple finishes all these latest updates they’re going to really give Google a run for their money.

Sorry to bring up a sore subject but Siri just sucks. I asked her on Wednesday to give me the address of a specific Kaiser Permenente location and she kept saying I found 11 locations near you, click on the one you want, however all the names were truncated so you could not determine which was which. I only wanted the one specific location which I asked for by name but she refused. Same thing when searching directly in Maps. Complete fail. I'm sure you can guess how I solved this problem.
What is the query so I may try it?
You can demonstrate this issue very easily in your own city by making a query similar to this: What is the address of McDonalds restaurant on Main Street in your city. The problem is in both Maps and Siri. They ignore the details and just bring back everything within maybe 20 miles. In the case of the  Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Hills the name is too long for the results form and only the first part of the name is repeated and can’t be identified.
Yes, I was able to reproduce this in my city. That is a lame way of answering the query - I supplied the street name so it should have self-selected that location over the others.

    Should submit this to www.apple.com/feedback

I hope this guy has an armed bodyguard or two escorting him around the streets of The City. If they're not careful, some miscreant is gonna take this guy out and steal his gear. The streets of SF are NOT a safe place to roam with anything that looks valuable. He also needs a spotter to ensure that he doesn't step into any of the human waste lining the streets.
Why do you suppose there is so much homelessness in a wealthy city like SF in a wealthy country like the US? Let me guess, laziness?

    Mmmm. Not sure.

I tried the same same experiment with three different McDonalds.

What I get back is a list of all the MaccyDs in a 15 mile radius from where I live, but the first one on the list is always the one on the street I asked for.  It actually knows what you want, but for some reason, Apple has decided you want a list of ten restaurants, even though you were asking for a specific one.

Like ANY big city, there are safe neighborhoods and not so safe ones.  The photo shows he's at the corner of Stockton and Sutter, about a block from the main SF Apple store.  It's pretty upscale around there.  If there's anything to watch out for it's Uber drivers or waste of the canine variety.

One, this has nothing to,do with the Apple maps backpack guy and two, his complaint was that the Siri list only showed the first pat of the names so he couldn’t identify which of the one in the list was the one he wanted.

It’s a complaint about data presentation and nothing to do with Siri or Apple maps. If he had tried typing the name into Apple maps he would have gotten a readable list to select from.

In this case it’s not a Siri issue but a information presentation issue. Type the query into Apple maps to get a readable list.

What happened to FlyOver in Maps? Cannot see how to get it going.
Enter a popular city and tap search and you should see a “Flyover” button immediately below “Directions”. Tapping it takes you to Flyover view. At this point, depending on the city, you may see an additional Start City Tour option, to take full advantage of the feature.

Frustratingly, if you clear the search by tapping “x” you lose the Flyover and Start City Tour buttons... until you search for the broader city name again. “3D” isn’t obvious it is the same feature and using it does not present the Start City Tour option.

You might give Apple feedback to address this issue, because it was the reason you couldn’t find the option: https://www.apple.com/feedback/maps_ios.html

A straightforward solution might be to display these options, along with the now–missing Directions button, alongside the POI buttons in search: (Flyover) (City Tour) (Directions)

I’m not doubting you for your area, but I rarely have issues with Apple Maps even when I’m travelling. I’m on the east coast and travel between PA, NJ, FL, and MI. It has been great.

Really, nobody gives a rat’s patootie what you do.
So the poor functionality I described is just fine and dandy for you?
But on iOS we have the choice to use both. I use Google street view when required, but use Apple Maos for navigation in the UK. The speed limit information is really useful.

Even if Apple had a million Maps backpacks if the usability of app is ultimately faulty the complaint has validity in the context of this article.

My back hurts just looking at this!
You've never been in-country with a 110lbs of gear on your back. Now that's some fun.

    Sort of an aside, but:

I see Apple's push towards Augmented Reality mostly benefiting Maps.
Instead of looking at a cryptic 2 dimensional diagram as you drive ("OK, WHICH right do I take?), I can see the screen showing exactly what you see out of your windshield with directions on which turn to make.
(Of course that would require a front facing camera).

While I wouldn't say sucks and complete fail, I'm less than enthralled with Siri functionality, or lack of same.

I have several small issues with Siri saying something similar to  'I can't do that'. I don't know about other voice assistances, but I hate that Siri is non-functional without an internet connection.

Siri on the Watch (Series 2 anyway) can be very frustration with very frequent, slow response times. Something that really bugs me is not a matter of functionality but of programming. Some Siri responses on the Watch are worse than others. With those I'll get the 'Hold on... I'll tap you when I'm ready.' When you're ready?! Hey Witch, you work for me! LOL It's an annoying programmed response. I make a short rank to AppleFeedBack when she pull that crap.

But Siri needs a lot of work. A few things I can count on her getting right. Sometimes her responses seem like she was talking to somebody besides me.

Getting Map directions with Siri is almost always a problem. If I want a store that has three locations, Siri asks which one and requires me to press a selection; not entirely legal when I'm driving. I should be able to say 'take me to Costco, Livermore' and not get 'Which one', and be presented with an list to touch.

Otherwise, Maps alone works splendidly for me. I haven't used it on foot much, but it's been very accurate with only one misstep since it first debuted, and that didn't put me in a pond of water.

A Street view would be awesome. I used that in Google Maps (desktop) a few times to see the building and landmarks of where I wanted to be. It also gave me the name of a business, knowing where it was, but not the name.

Will be cool whenever they actually roll this stuff out at a broad scale. I’m sure apple’s street view will be amazing but will it ever come to my little town? Seemingly We aren’t even anywhere close to getting flyover.

Analysis: Apple is planning to expand the 3D mapping features of the iPhone and allow users to map their locations. This mapping information will be combined with sensor data from autonomous automobiles on Apple's servers to create a complete, accurate and detailed 3D map of the world. Further it will be updated over time so that it can remain current and possibly even have a history feature like Google Earth. Currently Apple falls far behind Google on map accuracy and coverage. This is why when you ask for directions to a store, Apple maps often just drops you at the entrance to a shopping center and leaves it up to you to find the store itself.

Apple has spend billions and many years to build its own "base map."  They have been dependent on sources such as TomTom to make updates, etc., but thankfully now Apple is rolling out its own.  It will take a good year or so to roll it out worldwide.  Enjoy!
