We know enough Kuo’s main business these last years was to promote OLED. Stay tuned, we’ll see more from him, he will do his best to discredit and kill the XR in the view of investors. His initial inflated estimates then the following cut-down estimates are just rhetoric.
AAPL is being trashed to day along with all of the other FAANG stocks so don't try to justify your bias with its dropping. Wall Street is a strange universe where fear and greed rule, not logic and reasoning.
What makes you think that greed and fear are not based on logic and reasoning!?
Warren Buffett says they aren’t. I don’t know, but he seems to know more about Wall Street than anyone alive, having worked there for Ben Graham who himself ran his fund back from well before the Great Depression.
They explain it to those interested using the Mr Market parable.
Ming Chi Kuo is just like any financial tech analysts he knows nothing about the volume of any product Apple sell I doubt even Apple know. Just like everyone else they only are making an educated guess.
The way I see it is the "analysts" aren't happy because they expected another SE type product, where there is a reduced function iPhone offered at a reduced iPhone price. The Xr is hardly a reduced function iPhone. It doesn't have the top line camera or screen, but the rest is essentially the same and the phone cost what the normal iPhone has cost forever.
The issue is a marketing one, where the Xr should be the standard line and the Xs is the "limited" and enhanced line. IMO they should have rolled the Xr out first and then the Xs a month later, that way it is like "ok here is the next gen of the iPhone and then in a month we will give you the super version of it". As is the Xr is (incorrectly) viewed as the stripped down value model but it isn't priced that way. So analysts are pissed. And analysts will get over it when the next quarterly reporting is done.
I’ve had mine for a week. I have very long fingers and can deal with the size, but I think many more would sell if this phone were smaller and lighter. However, the LCD display’s bezels probably dictated this size in order to keep the bezel/body ratio in an acceptable range.
I think with all the new features iPhones accumulated over the years, it is becoming extremely difficult or nearly impossible to fit the features in an iPhone 4 size. Maybe Steve Jobs can force Apple engineers to do it but not the nice person like Cook.
That is such a comical false idea of how hardware and electrical engineering works.
haha, true. I read that bold quote and thought of the scene in the first Iron Man and the engineer saying "I'm not Tony Stark"

Greed and fear are emotions, therefore logic and reasoning are not required. Have you not heard of the Tragedy of the Commons? Greed is often counter-logical.
I didn't say that they are necessary conditions.
I was stating a simple fact that 'greed' (often used as short-hand for 'people prefer more wealth to less') and 'fear' (often used as short-hand for 'people prefer less risk to more') are not all inconsistent with applying logic or reasoning to a financial situation. They can be, and are often, associated. Just as emotions are not necessarily disassociated with cognition. In fact, they often motivate it.
And, the Tragedy of the Commons is easily enough solved, at least in principle: put a price on the enjoyment of the Commons (i.e., get people to internalize the externality).
Solving the TotC is irrelevant. The point that people do things against their own interests in the interest of greed is proof that greed is not inherently based on logic and reasoning as claimed.
I bought an XR and I know several other people who have. Bang for your buck it's the best iPhone out there. Also the screen is actually more colour accurate than the XS or XS Max. (I've heard people say that there's some sort of tinge to it at an angle, to which I can only say it's an LCD of course viewing angle will matter a bit, but it's a fantastic display from what I can tell.
This was the year my family refreshed our iPhones, Mom wanted a big screen and that's all she cared about so she got a 7 Plus, Dad wanted something that was free on our plan, so he got an iPhone 8 (in a new rugged case) and I got the XR. I think if anything this is the best equipped Apple has ever been to just sell the phone that meets people's needs.

It also helped to explain why they invested in Apple i.e. they believed in results and not theories.
