My battery weirdness - this time with evidence

I found X-Charge from here: <a href="http://www.pol-online.net/index.php?page=freewares"; target="_blank">http://www.pol-online.net/index.php?page=freewares</a>;

It can replace the battery charge menu extra with a dock icon similar to the battery docklet from 10.0. Additionally, it offers a graph showing Battery Charge over time, and an Events log.

I noticed over the past few months how my maximum battery charge got worse and worse after time. Now look at this:

2003-03-13 22:56:23: --- X-Charge started

2003-03-13 22:56:23: --- Running on battery (current charge = 68%)

2003-03-14 03:03:50: --- System going to sleep... (battery charge = 3%)

2003-03-14 03:03:56: Charger plugged

2003-03-14 03:03:56: Battery started charging (current charge = 2%)

2003-03-14 06:35:45: --- System waking up... (battery charge = 2%)

2003-03-14 06:35:53: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 2%)

2003-03-14 06:36:48: Battery started charging (current charge = 2%)

2003-03-14 07:20:19: --- System going to sleep... (battery charge = 32%)

2003-03-14 07:26:02: --- System waking up... (battery charge = 35%)

2003-03-14 07:26:02: --- System going to sleep... (battery charge = 35%)

2003-03-14 12:29:02: --- System waking up... (battery charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:29:09: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:30:04: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:30:49: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:30:59: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:31:44: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:31:54: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:32:39: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:32:49: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:34:39: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:35:24: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:35:34: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:36:09: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:36:19: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:36:54: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:37:04: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:38:29: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:38:44: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:39:14: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:39:24: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:39:59: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:40:09: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:40:44: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:40:54: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:41:29: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 66%)

2003-03-14 12:41:39: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

The charge doesn't get any further than 66%, which is everything else but acceptable.

Yet more interesting is the graph. I started it when the battery claimed to be full (when it was in fact at 68%, see also the above log) and slowly went down to about 3 percent, when the system went to sleep due to lack of battery. The next morning, I woke it up with the Charger plugged in. At that time, it was down to about 2 percent. Within about 45 minutes, battery load quickly increased to about 33 percent. From then on, it increased a lot slower.

I don't get what's happening now - is it charging very slowly, or can't it charge any longer?

    Been there, done that.

The graph has since develoepd for another two hours, and surprisingly, battery charge is in fact increasing. But SLOWLY! Extremely slow. Not even two percent in one and a half hours, according to the log:

    2003-03-14 12:29:02: --- System waking up... (battery charge = 66%)

    [..]

    2003-03-14 13:08:59: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 67%)

    [..]

    Now:

    2003-03-14 14:57:29: Battery started charging (current charge = 67%)

The battery still stops (and then, after a few seconds, continues again) charging every few minutes:

    2003-03-14 13:08:34: Battery started charging (current charge = 66%)

    2003-03-14 13:08:59: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 13:09:09: Battery started charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 13:09:29: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 13:09:44: Battery started charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 13:10:14: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 13:10:24: Battery started charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 13:10:49: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 13:10:59: Battery started charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 14:41:34: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 14:41:44: Battery started charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 14:52:34: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 14:52:44: Battery started charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 14:57:09: Battery stopped charging (current charge = 67%)

    2003-03-14 14:57:29: Battery started charging (current charge = 67%)

    And so on.

If you're under AppleCare(s?) or warranty, you may want to exchange it..
