Originally scheduled to open its doors in early 2019, Apple's first Latin American flagship store is back on track for unveiling in an upscale Mexico City mall later this year after undergoing a major redesign to consolidate two stories of floorspace into one.

Construction of the large single-story standalone structure at Antara Fashion Hall in Ciudad de Mexico's (CDMX) Polanco district has been ongoing for months, with Apple aiming for a grand opening in September, according to a person with knowledge of the company's plans.

Contracted crews completed the internal latticework that serves as a skeleton for the future store late last year. A large, flat roof with gently sloping overhangs was likewise installed over the past few months, a design element introduced with Apple's Chicago flagship and later applied to modern outlets like the soon to open Apple Xinyi A13 location in Taiwan.

Similar to Xinyi A13, and most current standalone Apple stores, the Mexico City venue will boast a glass facade that doubles as an entryway thanks to large glass doors. Curved glass corner pieces round out an almost seamless glass-walled design.

Apple Latin America Flagship


The outlet is located between Museo Soumaya and Museo Jumex, two of Mexico's most renowned museums. Both Museo Soumaya and Museo Jumex, as well as the Acuario Inbursa aquarium, are visible from the store's grounds, an important concession for new retail chief Deirdre O'Brien, who intends for the outlet to become a central part of the community, the source said.

Apple committed to plans to build a Latin American flagship in 2017, just six months after opening its first retail store in the region at Mexico's Centro Santa Fe mall. The Antara location was selected over a nearby plot on Avenida Presidente Masaryk due to the first store's strong enterprise sales, which currently account for more than 40% of all revenue.

    Please do stores in Vietnam,India & Bangladesh . And please spread your suppliers away from China. China has gotten too much from .

    Very good news. But just to remind. Latin America includes Central America where Mexico is and the elusive apple store will be as the news here say so but Brazil is  Latin American country and there are two Apple Store there, one i. Rio de Janeiro e the second in São Paulo. So it will not be the first Latin American Apple store. 
    Just my two cents.

    1) Mexico is part of north america not central.  2) The article mentions the other store in Mexico, so they arent claiming it's the only one. 3) It IS the first FLAGSHIP store

    A little geography... Mexico is part of North America. Central America as a region goes from Guatemala to Panama, and in some cases includes Mexico, but in most is excluded. Both stores in Brazil are inside shopping malls, the same as the current store in Mexico City. This store would be in its own construction. That would be a first in Latin America.

    Yeah,  wish they would adjust the title of this article.  Saw it and thought they might mean a store coming to somewhere like Colombia,  Venezuela or Argentina.  As others have noted Mexico is part of North America.

    There are different opinions of wether Mexico is in North or Central America. Either way, it is in Latin America, because I it was colonized by a people, the Spanish, whose language derived from Latin, from the Roman Empire.

    Also, there is much fuss about what flagship means. I’ve been to the Apple Store on Rio de Janeiro. It is inside a huge mall, and it is very big. Perhaps bigger than some standalone stores.

    Mexico is North America, literally and geographically. It’s also part of Latin America, heck it’s where Latin America starts.  And the store is a flagship, if you don’t know what that means use google. There is no store like it in Latin America of even southern US

    Mexican here. Mexico, as @JJ2244 mentions, is part of both North America and Latin America (because of the Spanish heritage). And this will be Mexico City's second Apple Store, as is mentioned at the end (at the Centro Santa Fe mall there is one already). And as some people have pointed out, Brazil is also a part of Latin America and it has a couple of Apple Stores.

    So I think the title should be change to reflect all of this. Probably "    Apple's fourth Latin American flagship store..." or "Apple's second Mexico City flagship store..."
