Yep--you can now get 1gb dimms. Joyous day!

1 GB SODIMMS

They are DDR, so only the 12 and 17 inchers can use them, and no, I don't have all the specifics--read about it at xlr8yourmac.com.

I'll wait until I've heard from someone who's installed it...

Not that my 12" really seems to need more RAM...

And have you seen the price?

However, maybe with Micron going down to .11u (is that correct?) they will potentially get higher density modules and at a lower price.

The price is high--big surprise. It always is with new tech.

I'm just happy that it is here.

1 euro is approxiamately 1 dollar, so that would make them in the neighborhood of $800 USD.

Expensive, but they will be coming down over time.

Is there anyone here who would actually shell out $845 dollars for that?

    God, I hope not

Exactly why I suspect they will be coming down in price.

    Hmmm...interesting.

If I recall from previous discussions, OS X can address up to...4 GB of RAM? I know my TiBook is out of luck...but can I assume that you can simply replace any 512 MB stick in one of the new DDR equipped Macs with one of these 1 GB ones? Thats very cool if so . 2 GB in an iMac would be nice.

That takes care of the former practical 640MB max RAM limit in the 12-inch PowerBook... at a price! Now all I want in the 12-incher is DVI-out and a 1Ghz processor. Hopefully, Apple will get there by fall.

Well, not really one of these SODIMMS but rather a regular 1GB DIMM. Dealram doesn't list any 1GB DDR modules for the Mac, but there may be some compatible with the Mac anyway.

I thought DDR-Ram could be put in an SDram slot, but just be utilized as SD-ram, but i'm not sure... Is that False?

The only 1GB DDR modules I have seen are ECC type (will not be compatible with the Mac's unbuffered requirements).

And no, DDR modules have a different pin arrangement to just normal SDRAM and will not physically fit.

Taking a glance at pricewatch, I saw quite a few non-ECC, unbuffered 1GB DDR DIMMS in both PC2700 and PC2100 on their first pages. Some of these may be Mac compatible.

Did you note how much they were?

Would be quite cool to deck out a PM with 4 GB RAM just to see what it could do.

Yes, but the one from Jaguar does currency conversions, which was the point of the poster.

Yeah, if you install the RAM with a hammer, it's possible. You then have a hard time getting it utilized as RAM, let alone DDR RAM...
