I was actually rooting against the US team. Oh well, you can't win 'em all.

You rooted against them for not liking trump, calling them unamerican, but you were all hating on Obama. That's hypocrisy!

Equal pay? If, like some data suggested, they brought in more rating and more revenue, then they should be paid MORE. You should be paid according to your success and money you brought in pure and simple.
My company is great with trying to address equality, and during this tournament they produced a board showing that the USA women bring in significantly more revenue than the US men (for the World Cup), and they get paid so much less for doing more work (more games), because they’re actually good!

Congratulations to the US team and especially Megan Rapinoe.  ;)

What an amazing tournament it's been. Here in the UK, the semi-final between England and the USA was the most watched soccer game of the year (beating even the men's Champions League final). Also, I hear that the US jersey is the best selling soccer jersey ever on nike.com.

Hmmm. Would Apple have rooted for an opposing team? I think inclusion is important and they should have but would they have?
Apple is an American company, and that is where their connection to the American women's team is. Apple has no connection to The Netherlands women's team, so it'd be a little odd seeing Apple congratulate them on an American technology web site after theoretically beating the American team. Apple has a plenty good enough track record with inclusion when it comes to Pride Month, Black History Month, Women's History Month, Chinese New Year, etc. They are also the only major tech company that includes all religious holidays in their holiday calendar (Ramadan, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, etc.). Most other calendar providers, including Google, only provide the typical Easter, Christmas, etc. There are plenty of things you can criticize Apple for, but being inclusive is not one of them. As a straight, white, Christian, conservative (gasp!) American male, I appreciate what Apple does, and hope they can lead other technology companies to do that same by example.
If I recall correctly, I believe that Apple recognized the Toronto Raptors on the Apple Canada Store after they beat the Golden State Warriors. Apple doesn’t have any any connection with Toronto, or at least not the I remember.
But you just made my point. I guess Apple may have congratulated The Netherlands on their Dutch web site if they had won, but the United States won, so they congratulate them in this country.
I was more making reference to how you said, "Apple has no connection to The Netherlands women's team".  Apple does not have a connection to the Toronto Raptors and still recognized them for their victory.

... Yes, the women should make the same amount as the men, but the men are probably making too much, so maybe you should look at lowering their pay to at least meet the women in the middle.
Obviously the US women’s soccer team is more successful than the men’s team, but it’s also extremely unlikely they’d have any chance at beating the men’s team. Men are generally much better at sports which benefit from strength and speed. It’s inescapable biology, and people enjoy seeing humanity pushed to the physical limits. Women’s sports can be enjoyable but they’re not usually at the same level as mens, and that’s good. If they ever become at the same level it means we went horribly wrong in our culture.
Forehead slap. Women’s sports and equal pay isn’t about women competing with men. That’s idiotic. The lack of testosterone during puberty is why there is a separate category for women’s sports. That does not mean women aren’t performing at their peak, relative to the gender.

People watch sports for the excitement and unknown outcome. That men are stronger than women isn’t why people watch soccer.

It’s not pay-per-view. They agreed to play for a certain amount of money according to their individual contracts.
Ah the old “But women agree to accept lower salaries!” trope. Errrnnt, does not justify it.

Yup, and in turn by routing against America's team he himself becomes unpatriotic. Lol. What a joker.

No one forced anyone to play for an amount they didn’t agree to. Thanks for continuing to engage in the most trivial and pointless of arguments. Private contracts matter and are legally binding. Even a child understands this.

Even a child understands why your "But women are just getting what they deserve because they agreed to it!" trope is entirely idiotic.

The free market is hardly in play here. Alex Morgan can't go play for another country. It's either play for the US or sit at home.

The gender pay gap has been debunked since the 70s. Why are we still arguing?

If women bring in more ad revenue, viewers, attendees then yes, they should get paid more than men. No one should get paid equally for different work. That's just ridiculous.

International association football? Men’s revenue versus women? The Forbes list of most valuable sports franchises can be instructive: 7 of the 8 ranked years the top spot was a men’s association football team (the outlier is the Dallas Cowboys) either Manchester United or Real Madrid. The 2006 men’s World Cup has 26 billion total viewers, 715 million for the final game.... so FIFA has a lot more money to distribute in bonuses for the men’s game.

Otoh U. S. National team base salary: women $100k, men $0.

This IS the international team after all not the domestic professionals. And Men’s World Cup dominates.

The market for women’s soccer is still small but it will grow, just as the market for girls skateboards has grown over the decades (there used to be no such market). Trailblazers never make as much as those who follow. And the men make far more real money because the profits coming in for the men’s teams is far larger than those for women, even though what the men earn is actually a lower PERCENTAGE of a cut than the women.
