Yeah, Windows 3.0 was the first MS OS I ever used and most of the games were programmed to run only in DOS. I remember spending a lot of time tinkering with DOS boot disks to try and get Ultima 7 to be playable on a 16mhz 386.
Yeah The Black Gate was a tricky one. I recall using a special boot disk too, as well as Origin’s custom Voodoo Memory Manager utility. oh, the joy.

That's what this is about. Windows did exist in '85 but in a different way. It was designed to be used at the store online via Windows 10. So I think whoever wrote this subjective piece didn't get the memo nor dug in further to get the actual truth in why this campaign by M$ was created.
Hilarious how the haters hate the truth most of all.
It's not the truth entirely. And calling them 'haters' is considered gas lighting making you no better than that particular person in the White House using that exact same tactic towards the Democrats. There are angry Apple fans and there are angry devoted Apple fans. They're angry for a reason but not out of boredom or looking for a reason to 'hate' on.
You can keep on pooh-poohing M$ all you like but it doesn't change the fact that the company is still here. I don't own a Windows machine at least so I'm not bothered by them. This is no longer a Bill Gates/Ballmer era.
I agree that DED seems like a pretty angry guy. And he definitely takes a lot of these things personally, almost like someone insulted his mother. But, the truth is, he’s one of the very few writers out there with the incite and courage to call people out on their bullshit. Yes, sometimes his articles are a bit repetitive, but the bottom line is we need more people like him.
1. Generally factual, but 2. Full of typos, so maybe some of the facts are wrong, too... 3. Too long and rambling... 4. Could’ve been funny if it wasn’t so damned eager, defensive, and long-winded.
Regardless of the quality of the article, the main point is valid and Microsoft shouldn't be creating a fake history that many will confuse as fact. Windows won the desktop war but it was about 10 years later than 1985. In the real 1985 Bill Gates was still hoping Apple would license Mac OS in a broad way that would make further development of Windows redundant and allow Microsoft to be dominant in GUI applications written for Mac OS running on PCs. Excel 1.0 was a Mac-only program in 1985.

"To quote comedian and actor Jimmy Durante, “Everybody wants to get inta da act!” Microsoft released their retro app Windows 1.11 in their app store to commemorate the third season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. The software giant joins the likes of Burger King, Baskin-Robbins, and Coca-Cola to embrace their inner 80s with themed-promotions like the Upside-Down Whopper, Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream, and New Coke.
In the Windows 1.11 app, Microsoft applied their version of the Upside Down of their operating system set in 1985, the setting for Stranger Things’s third season. The app contains various puzzles and minigames where the player gets rewarded with non-spoilery clips as your Easter Eggs. All the games feature the main characters including Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, Steve, and Will as you try to save the town of Hawkins, Indiana again with the magic of point and click functions."

Honestly, I appreciate the emotion. It helps me to figure out who to acknowledge, engage in civil discourse, and who to block.

And you read it all and responded to it
You don't have to read it to knowASSUME it's the same thing every time.
All writers have a style and most follow a given theme. But if you don't verify the data you can only assume it's correct based on previously-noted trends.
Who was that Windows blogger who took a post at http://crazyapplerumors.com seriously? Sometimes when the satire is sophisticated, people in a rush or with an agenda can overlook the intention behind a piece. That includes DED and all of us who comment here.

You must be using Windows. Your word count is way off!!

To be fair, I subtracted the words captioning the pictures.

For real. These guys bang on their little keyboards so furiously to tell us, “I hate DED columns! When’s the next one?”
A true disorder.
