This is my situation as well. The battery isn't lasting quite as long but like many people, I don't use my iPad for many processor intensive tasks.
You might already have one, but as I mentioned above, a USB C charger certainly helps out with the battery situation, especially if your battery is some years old now.
It's really day and night compared to the standard charger.
Are the antennas for the wifi and cellular any better with the 2020?
I dont have a wifi 6 router so wonder if the range now is better. And speaking of range, my 2017 not that great with my Verizon service. Most times see 1 or 2 bars.
I think so. My 2017 had terrible WiFi reception issues (even with my WiFi 6 router) whereas the 2020 I just got performs flawlessly in that regard.
I think the larger size is perfect for me and she loves the slightly smaller iPad.
So, I think you can decide for yourself between better mobility and larger screen.
I'm using my 10.5 daily in bed and sitting on sofa. If you say 'slightly' smaller iPad. Would you recommend the 12.9 for those cases as the size difference is not that big? The 12.9 would also be the replacement of my macbook pro (mid 2012). So that's also a reason why I'm not sure whether the 11.0 is big enough for me. So complicated...

When you have the chance, and when you are able to, you should go to a store and see both the 11" and 12.9" in person and hold both.
It's not so much the size difference, but there is also a weight difference between the two.
We're talking about around 1 pound VS 1.4 Pounds.
That might not sound like a lot, but the 12.9" weighs almost 40% more than the 11".
I currently have a 10.5" iPad Pro too, but I kind of like the 12.9" size after seeing it in person, and that's probably what I'm going to choose as my next iPad next time around, but I don't go around carrying my iPads too much and I don't hold the iPads too much with my hands when using them. I usually have them on a stand on a table in front of me even when using them.
If somebody is used to holding their iPads often when using them, then the weight of the 12.9" might make a difference to them. I can imagine that using the 11" lying in bed is a lot easier and more comfortable than holding the 12.9" while lying in bed for example.
