Since I got a wireless charging iPhone (for both work and personal) I've not needed to plug my phone in unless I'm travelling - CarPlay (when wireless car play and charging isn't available) or on a plane. I travel with a wireless travel charger and at home I have wireless charging stations in the main areas.
Even before wireless charging was added I had never taken the chargers or headphones out of the iPhone box for the good 7/8 years hence when I resell a used iPhone it always comes with all of the existing items "untouched".
So for my situation Apple (or any phone manufacturer) can just ship the phone itself in the box and drop everything else - charger, headphones, and cable - as I never use them anymore.
Now the iPad and MacBook on the other hand... they'd better not mess with that.
iPhone doesn’t ship with a case. The vast majority of buyers go out and buy a case to go with their new iPhone. They don’t reuse their old case because it doesn’t fit. If iPhone doesn’t ship with a charger buyers can reuse their charger from their previous iPhone or buy a new charger/fast charger/wireless charger of their own choice from Apple or a third party. Why should Apple supply a charger r that may or may not be the buyers choice? That would be stupid. Cheapskates who just want something for free might be disappointed. I’m sure they’ll get over it one way or another and either choose to reuse their old charger or pony up for a new faster charger or wireless charger. Apple selling an iPhone on its own really does benefit customers even if some are too stupid to see that. If you can afford £1000 plus for a top of the range iPhone you can afford a charger to go with it. If you can’t afford the charger you can’t afford the iPhone. Grow up and stop whining.
1. If Apple were to sell the iPhone 12 for less than it sold the equivalent iPhone 11 models, then I wouldn’t care if there was no charger in there. I would like there to still be a pair of wired headphones in there, however. If it raises or keeps prices the same AND excludes one or both of these previously-included accessories, it will certainly look cheap and money-grubbing in the mind of the public.
2. If they don’t include these, a price break should be given to purchases on a configurable bundle of accessories similar to what was previously included in the box IMO. Indeed, let that bundle include the option for some services as well — this way everyone gets exactly the accessories and services they want “out” of the box, so to speak.
3. This news, combined with news of a new 20W charger being approved, suggests that Apple is moving to a “one charger for all iOS devices” strategy that may signal a shift over to USB-C for all or at least more iOS devices. Such a move would justify making the charger an accessory, since anyone who’s bought a recent Mac or iPad Pro already has a collection of USB-C cords at this point, and they’re pretty cheap.
4. I wish they’d do what I’ve been suggesting since the iPhone 8: include a basic Qi pad (with charger) available either in the box or at a discount.
Apple should make all devices USB-C and include a voucher for a low end charger. I see tons of their original slow chargers at the flea market. That's not who Apple wants to be competing with.
But they would likely lose their business for post-market charger sales with heavy markup. $19 for a dubious entry point? Then $29, and so on... In my experience that's taking advantage of the least knowledgeable users that are afraid to stray away from the brand. It feels the same way when Verizon is trying to sell me their phone cases.
To remedy their loss: sell a kit with a tiny lipstick multiport GaN charger that can be used for the MacBooks, iPad, iPhone, Ipod, etc. Include a 2m braided cable 100W 20V/5A Power Delivery, 10Gbps Data Transfer, and 4K-60Hz video out (maybe 5K?). Sell optional 1m and 3m cables with the same properties. Improve the kit when the technology improves. Such devices are worth their markup, so Apple might gain some costumers here. And they would finally be selling a quality product worth the high end margins. I know I'd be willing to pay a few extra bucks to avoid the digging out third party MFi certification when I avoid buying form Apple. I'd be using with non-Apple devices having trust in the brand. So it could open new markets. If we are all going to only carry one charger one day, wouldn't Apple want it to be their charger? I don't see how the could avoid selling a wired one one anyway. Wireless charging has too many shortcomings to get away with that alone.
I also have many chargers* but can see the argument to upgrade rather than not provide or have an option. Seem to me that including or excluding have good arguments.
* I have about 12 chargers from various family pads and phones but have no idea of their wattage as I can't read the 2pt white on white font.
First World People are buying a one thousand dollar phone, but complaining about paying for a charger. What people say, and what they do.... are not the same thing.
I've got 5W chargers running out of my ears. How about this deal, Apple? Get rid of the chargers and EarPods and don't charge more for a 5G equipped iPhone.
Ha! You really think that will happen? I'm guessing the premium for a 5G chip from Qualcomm is more that the cost for the 5W charger and the earphones combined. Personally, I think the fact that Apple is too cheap to include a real charger with a $1000 phone is kind of pathetic.
I'm guessing Apple will use these survey results as justification to ditch the 5W charger. That's fine - virtually no one needs another undersized charger. The problem is what do the do instead/ If they take them out without a replacement they're essentially gouging all of us consumers to make more profit. I would far prefer they add a voucher with each phone that lets you get a real charger, or a set of headphones, or anything else from the apple store. That way people get value from it, Apple will get more sales from the store and people won't get junk they don't need.

Add a voucher? What exactly is the point of adding a voucher? You do realise that adding a voucher for $50 would just add $50 to the price of the iphone? Apple try to keep things simple so why complicate matters further? If Apple leave out the accessories then customers can choose to buy any that they need/want, just like the majority already do with a case whether its an Apple case or third party case.

You do realize that Apple won’t drop the price of the phone if they remove the headphones and charger, right? And who said anything about $50? Try $15 or $20; the nominal value of the items they would be removing.
Any of us can walk into an Apple store and chose to buy anything there. The point of a voucher is they could let people chose something they actually need.
First World People are buying a one thousand dollar phone, but complaining about paying for a charger. What people say, and what they do.... are not the same thing.
Yup. There it is. The messed up thought process that somehow equates the purchase of an expensive product as justification to expect people to pay even more money. How about if you bought a pair of $150 running shoes that didn’t come with laces? Anyone who can afford a pair of $150 shoes can clearly afford laces, right?
i think the most appropriate statement would be that a company selling a $1000 phone with the highest profit margins in the industry can afford to include a decent charger with the phone.
Easy solution that pleases the most customers: No charger in iPhone box. More powerful charger offered at significant discount with purchase of new iPhone. Offered at regular price if purchased alone.
I like the idea of slim packaging. But a charging cable and/ or charger should be very simple to add onto the order. Just a configuration selection.
By the way, I think 2-4-port USB-C chargers should be standard. I’m trying out a Hyperjuice 100W 4-port charger at the moment. It’s not perfect, but I can use that one charger and cover all my charging needs, in a size similar to a regular MacBook Pro charger. Apple should offer something like that. There’s an awful number of devices needing to be charged.
You do realize the 11 Pro line comes with an 18W USB-C power block, right?
All iPhones from the 8 onward should have had them.
I have an Apple iPhone 11 Pro sitting right next to the iPad Pro I am typing on and the IPhonePro 11 has a lightning connector- not a USB C. That must be for the larger version of the Pro.
11 Pro and Pro Max come with USB-C to lightning cables and 18w USB-C charging brick. It's the same charger that comes with the iPad Pro as well. I use one at my desk for both devices ( 11 Pro Max and Ipad Pro ).
While the power adapter is
compatible with any USB‑C-enabled device, Apple recommends pairing it
with the 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation) for
optimal charging performance. You can also pair it with iPhone 8 or
later to take advantage of the fast-charging feature.
I'm happy with the 5W small charger. Its good for the battery and I don't need fast charging.
So the 18w Apple branded charger that came with my 11 Pro Max is bad for the battery? My battery health is at 98% after 8 months and I use a mix of a Belkin wireless and Apple's 18w usb-c charger.
I could certainly get by I without yet another charger. I have 4 from previous iPhones and iPods. Plus a 12 watt iPad charger and a 3rd party 2x12 watt charger. So I think I will survive just fine if my next phone comes without one. I prefer to use the 5 watt chargers for my phone, so that they will stay cooler during charging to extend overall battery life. It's very rare for me to need to charge quickly.
As for wired headphones, I have never used them, so I would definitely like to not get more.
I like to be able to have a charger at the office, home (MBR), and one in the kitchen -- that's just me (I also tend to leave a lightning/USB cable connected also). My daughter seems to think the the strain relief where cable connects to device is for decoration and just yanks on the cable 6-12 inches from connection point from the device. 4-6 mos. is a reasonable lifetime for her -- then its "Dad this d*mn cable doesn't work anymore!". Sorry for the Segway...
What I would really like to see is an option (at purchase time) either in Apple Store to check off the following:
☐ Include iPhone charger & 1M cable. add $12.00 ☐ Include only iPhone charger. add $ 8.00 ☐ Do not include iPhone charger or cable
It would also be nice to see option for 3M cables, Qi chargers, and higher power chargers to allow for faster changing (with appropriate charges).

They did.. in the Pro models last year. Now I think all models should get it.
