Well i am ready to bet one $ that there will be a G5 for NAB. Considering that the bookmakers says that there is only one chance for a gazillion for that release, i will be very, very rich if it happens ...

Face it. There is no G5 coming and even if there was it won't be enough. This time apple has lost. Start dumping those shares . . .

If Apple releases anything at NAB, it will be QT6, Quicktime Broadcaster, and DVD Studio Pro, the media apps they have ready to go. The only limit on the QT stuff is liscensing. If they can get that worked out, they're good to go.
I think the points made are reasonable for a reason to release the G5 at NAB. Of course that in no way means that the G5 is ready (who knows). I wouldn't rule out the possibillity (although I consider it unlikely).
It sure would be a good way to bust into the market ...
Let's face it people, from a purely financial perspective, the sooner Apple launches the G5 the better. While many people think the PMacs are selling well, I think they're not doing as well as they should. Factor in the fact that Apple makes more profit on the PMacs than on the iMacs, Apple has to increase the volume sale of PMacs ASAP. If not at NAB, Apple will have to wait till MWNY in July meaning the next qtr won't be hot sales-wise either. Broadcasting and Hollywood are big customers for the PMacs and FC Pro. NAB or any focused type event makes more sense to me than a consumer-type MW event. Making a big splash with the G5 in April just before this qtr's earnings announcement may also help stem any big stock price drop if the earnings aren't up to snuff given the iMac delays. The sooner the better for the G5 release, as I'm ready to buy.
It would indeed be great to crack into this market in a bigger way, but NAB isn't the show to do that at. Not everything that has "Broadcast" in the title is an appropriate forum to release a new machine - let alone a machine of the desktop variety.
It would make more sense to bet on BDA (or Siggraph), an it ain't happening there, either folks.
Seb asked the right question. No scheduled Apple Keynote, no G5...simple as that. They won't announce at any event unless they can guarantee they have the undivided attention of everyone attending that event. I think NAB is a logical place to pitch a new Power Mac, but I don't necessarily know that it's the right place to introduce one to the general public.
Big as it may be for Broadcasters, NAB isn't that well known to most. With MacWorld events everything takes care of itself because in addition to the big crowds, every Mac enthusiast on earth is watching the streaming broadcast, reading MacCentral or something to that effect. The audience of Mac users would be much larger than that associated with NAB.
I think QT 6 is much more likely, perhaps with an ironed-out MPEG 4 licensing resolution as well.
On a tangent, wondering if Premiere 7 will be announced at this show. Seems logical. More so than a G5 anyway. Either way, don't get your undies in a bunch about the next major Power Mac revision. The more I read from knowledgeable sources in the embedded space, the more I think a 7500 (what MOT will likely call the G5 for Apple) will kick some major ass, including RIO, on-die DDR memory controller, and all the rest. And if it showed up any later than MWNY, I'd be REALLY surprised (unlike at any other time in the recent past when PM updates were 50/50 propositions at best).
We're going to get what we want and we'll get it by mid-summer, so cheeeeel.
Heh, these aren't the kinds of shows that Jobs and company get a keynote at. This is a broadcasting convention, not just a post production convention. There is so much to the industry that doesn't involve Apple, and you'll really have no idea until you actually attend They're up to what, three full hotel conference halls now? And the Vegas convention centers in the Hotels are a LOT bigger than the Moscone. The focus at the NAB is more on *broadcasting* than anything else, and while the Effects/Post Production people have a LOT of floor space, the majority of the show isn't so much about them.
Set to keynote this year's NAB on April 7 are Oded Bendov, William Baker, and Patrick Walsh. You've probably never heard of them. Dr. Bendov was one of the designers of the WTC Broadcasting facility, Patrick Walsh was the project manager of the antenna installation, and Dr. Baker is going to discuss what we're going to do to replace the broadcasting facilities that were lost in the WTC disaster. That building was responsible for broadcasting over a dozen stations.
On April 8, the all industry opening keynote, Eddie Fritts, Richard Parsons, and Richard E. Wiley will be holding the keynote. Fritts is the NAB CEO, Parsons is the COO of AOL/Time Warner, and Wiley is there to receive a distinguished service award. There is a "New Media" keynote on the 8th, and it's hosted by the dot com poster boy, Marc Andreeson
Apple is registered with two booths, one specifically for the Nothing Real products they acquired. They'll have stuff to show, but I'm going to agree with others when I say we're not going to see a G5 there. I just don't see it happening..
I agree with everyone here that the G5 most likely will not be showcased at the NAB although I'd like to see them today even without Apple fanfare. Of course, we all know Jobs doesn't like to release anything unless he gets his 2 minutes in the spotlight. Too bad because the G5 rollout is WAY OVERDUE. The only upcoming event most likely to showcase the G5 would be MWNY. That means Apple's revenues and earnings are going to suck the bag until then. The price increase on the iMac may be also an interim solution to make up for lost earnings.
It would be great if Apple was demo'ing Nothing Real based software on beta G5's. No new cases or anything. No announcement, just showing a little of what to expect. ooooooooo

Hell, while we're at it, I'll even take 2 to 1 odds that it won't be at MWNY.
Because if the answer to both is "no" then it ain't gonna happen.

If not, then my magic eight ball points to not likely.
I doubt they'd just have a booth set up with a couple of G5s and a little sign saying, "New G5s are here.".
They'd want to spread a little RDF, maybe a Cleaner shootout (or something like it), and do a little general marketing.
Anyone know?
