Even though ByteDance will supposedly lose $5-6 Billion in India (at the time it's largest market ahead of mainland China) because it was banned there, there's no way the US portion of the app is worth nearly five times as much. Especially with FB unveiling Reels earlier today. What is Nadella smoking?!

And to think people flipped out when Apple spent a couple billion on Beats.

I already predicted the hypocrisy. Moronic YouTubers will defend this purchase.

I'm no programmer, but isn't this a fairly simple app? Why does something like that take 15 million lines of code? And, if that takes 15 million lines of code what does an app like Photoshop take? Thanks...
Most of the code is concerned with sniffing out data, chopping it up and sending the pieces back to the PRC for reassembly into a knock-off !!!

Don't worry, they have pills for that kind of paranoia....

I was thinking half the code is internal spyware.

Isn't that how Google and Facebook make their money?

If they just wait for a few months TikTok will be dead and they can just start their own version of the app for next to nothing.
Except TikTok already have a very large install base. Look what happened when the creators of Vine started a new platform, Byte.

So nobody cares if TikTok is a bad actor as long as the young people love it and don’t mind if it creates dossiers on them to be sent to China? I wish the so-called White Hats would tell us, once and for all, if the app is okay or not. And didn’t the Chinese government just say they would not allow TikTok to be sold?

... which also will be dead in a few months thereafter.

Then it’s dead in the US. Adios, TikTok. You’ll not be missed.

    Fame and success is fleeting.

Hopefully, TikTok USA from MS will work the same way for youngsters... otherwise... a lot of money down the MS drain.

Apple... don't even think about buying this! Make your own!

The only "evidence" that TikTok "is a bad actor" is Trump whining about it after TicTok users embarrassed him.
...  That probably means its a very, very GOOD actor.

That's what happens when authoritarian regimes step in and interfere with free markets for their own political interests.
