Apple has moved on to the fourth round of developer betas for its milestone operating systems, with new builds of iOS 14, and iPadOS 14 available to download for testing.

The newest builds can be downloaded via the Apple Developer Center for those enrolled into the test program, or via an over-the-air update on devices running the beta software. Public betas typically arrive within a few days of the developer versions, via the Apple Beta Software Program website with the most recent released on July 23.

This fourth round follows after the third, which shipped on July 22. The second round of betas landed on July 7, while the first appeared shortly after the WWDC debut on June 22.

Fourth betas for tvOS 14, watchOS 7, and macOS Big Sur are expected to be released in the near future.

Major changes have been made to the Home screen and app interface for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, with alterations also made to Messages and Safari, Siri's interface, Maps, the introduction of Sound Recognition alerts, and CarKey, among other features.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly suggest users don't install betas on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, due to the potential for data loss or other issues. It is instead recommended to install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to ensure there are sufficient backups of important data beforehand.

The installation stalled with a boot loop for me. I left it sitting for over an hour with no change. Doing a DFU mode restore now. Captured the logs from Console. Third strike.

Holy crap, this release is buggy as hell - keyboard crash issues all over the place, memory leaks, HomeKit accessory adding process with camera problems, slow reconnection when switching from 3G to 4G etc etc. I’m close to putting 13 on again. And this about 6 weeks before the expected release date :-/
