If the NSA has, in fact, done this, neither you nor I will ever know about it, much less have proof. Tid bits might leak out, but the Agency is remarkably silent on what it's really doing.   It has to be.

This needs to be an automatic death penalty offense.

And if China is behind this, it’s as good as a declaration of war.
This doesn't seem to be China's paws on it.  Usually these kind of breaches are done by folks in the U.S., or in Europe's eastern bloc.

I agree with you though that people that do this stuff should face a super severe penalty... decades in jail at the minimum.  It's the only way to really send a message to other miscreants that if you play this game, expect harsh consequences.
I agree. If it were China, I highly doubt they would publicly release all the files and information. This looks like an inside job to me. If it were hackers, I would assume they would have tried to sell the information.

Well perhaps you should consider / prove who the bad actors are before calling on Thermonuclear war, possibly in your own backyard.

By far the biggest surprise of this leak is that Intel has a roadmap.

You REALLY need to sign off the internet and get some sense of proportion before you post another foolish and inflammatory pro-violence comment on the internet.

Seriously, dude, get some dogdamned perspective. Go play some video games and chill the hell out, because your reaction is ENTIRELY INAPPROPRIATE.

OK let’s not fly off the handle here.
No, even if China is behind it, which nis very unlikely, it is not “as good as a declaration of war”. It would be bad, but let’s not let the hysteria lead to something that gets people killed.
Beating the war drums while sitting comfy at home on retirement is what these people do.

Except we know for a fact that deterrent doesn’t work — the death penalty hasn’t reduced crime, this is a fact.

The NSA/CIA have been hacking China, RUSSIA, even our own allies for decades.
Really? Even corporate IP and trade secrets? (I realize that there is -- or at least, could be -- a lot of national security-related spying and hacking, but that's par for the course, since every country does it to both friends and foes).

I'd love to see the evidence.
There is evidence of US hacking... Like their leaked hacking tools, or the Stuxnet operation on the Iran centrifuges. You don’t think their hacks are limited to Iran, do you?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shadow_Brokers

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuxnet

I didn’t see the claim made that it’s for IP or trade secrets, just that the NSA hacks other nations.

You're right, we should put the NSA in jail for putting backdoors in our CPUs. Instead of making the average computer more secure, these script kiddos want access into every computer (might I remind you that China is making their own silicon so these are meaningless).

When are these companies going to realize that security through obscurity never works...

You mean in ANDROID devices. The NSA has not gotten their dirty hands into Apple products.
This data didn't come from a mobile device.

What makes you so sure someone hasn't already skimmed data from Apple servers somewhere without Apple detecting it yet?

And what makes you so sure that there aren't Android devices out there that do not contain the highest levels of security?

That’s not what leaks have suggested. And since companies aren’t allowed to disclose NSA infiltration how are you to be sure?
Cook has absolutely stated they haven’t any backdoors.

What evidence do you offer to the contrary?

    But is that realistic?

The US has threatened a lot over the last few years but not acted on it. Iran, North Korea.

    Posturing but little else.

And surely the US would stand to lose more than China in any kind of conflict (even a cyber conflict) simply because it has more to lose from the get go.

    War, you say.

Were you thinking conventional or go nuclear straight away?
    “Thermonuclear”

Just kidding! I was just remembering something Jobs said about Google back in 2010, I believe. Or was it directed at Android in particular? I don’t remember.

There’s always been a problem with security thru obscurity.

This breach is proof of that.

If you like backdoors , like the US wants, stuff like this is a good example.

Just remember, there are no good guys who need access.
