For those saying they are throwing out their Echo devices to get these are you nuts. Alexa is miles ahead of Siri. Miles.
I concur that Alexa is miles better than Siri, it’s not really a competition at this point as Apple seems happy with the also-ran status of Siri and seems to have no interest in catching up let alone being better.

But for me I’m more concerned with privacy and the interconnected nature of my Apple devices. I love my HomePod, Siri is shite, but the audio is fantastic and I can easily place calls, etc with it.

If they’d released the HomePod along with HomePod mini’s I’d not have bought the echo dots in the first place.

    $99. I don’t know. Sounds too cheap. Maybe $149.

Please. Exaggerate much? Why do you assume that Alexa/Siri is the only reason to buy one of these?
    Do you consider sound quality?
    Do you consider HomeKit compatibility?
Do you consider integration with any other gear we might own?

Siri works just fine for everything I need it to do. Play music, control HomeKit devices, and respond to random queries.
Agreed.  Siri gets better and better.  I wouldn't use Siri to order toilet paper or a pizza, but those aren't use cases where I want to use my voice.  Someday, when these devices can have a natural conversation with the user, sure.  But none of them is there yet, as far as I know.
Also, jokes. If you ask, Siri will tell you a joke. Some of them are even funny.

I guess our experiences differ. I have several smart plugs, Hue light bulbs, door locks, smart devices, etc in my home. Most are compatible with Alexa & Homekit. I am CONSTANTLY having issues with Alexa failing to recognize my devices. I reset them, completely removed them & re-added them, even changed out my Dots to newer models but the issues ALWAYS come back. If Alexa says “sorry I cannot find the device named ...” one more time I’ll loose it. This always results in me grabbing my iPhone or Apple Watch (before I broke it) and issuing the same command for it to worse flawlessly. Not sure how they stack up in other aspects but for me, being a way to voice control my smart home - Siri & Homekit are a MILLION times more reliable & less frustrating.

My Dots are all being replaced ASAP with the Mini.

*This is my personal experience & can’t speak for anyone else*

Looks like a copy of the new echo announced a week or two ago?   Do they have Siri working better yet? Over priced by $50 if you have to use Siri.
Yep...Apple's designers were watching the hot and exciting Echo reveal and spent the last two weeks designing the Homepod Mini based on that.  Good call.

Yeah I know an iKnockoff moron who thinks Apple saw the original Amazon Echo and developed the HomePod in a few months.

P.S. I always find it funny how Apple's designs are credited to everyone but Apple. Let's not bullsh** here, HomePod Mini looks like a mini HomePod. Amazon Echos used to look like cold metal objects before they started using Apple's "ugly toilet paper" design. Funny how fast people forget.

These will be great HomeKit hubs at 99. For people wanting to start HomeKit without buying an ATV or the original HomePod.
Yes, you are right, but you could already buy an Apple TV HD as a HomeKit Hub for $149. That's only 33% cheaper now.
