These arguments against foldable iPhones are reminiscent of the arguments against 5G: There's a million reasons why Apple can't and shouldn't go there -- until they do. Then its great!
It's not smart to bet against the advance of technology.
I don't think anyone is saying 5G is great, apart from marketing for phone companies and network operators.
I don’t see any benefit of foldable phones beside gimmick. The cost will be outraged.
They will have the same appeal -- actually more -- than the old flip phone: it provides more functionality in a smaller package while protecting the valuable real estate.
It's not IF but WHEN we will be using them. Currently the only remedy is to carry a brick like the iPhone Pro Max in your pocket -- providing it will even fit into your pocket.
Except grit getting between the two layers of plastic screen is guaranteed to scratch it, whereas it's much less likely when between a soft pocket and glass screen.
For me, the water resistance and improved durability of the latest iPhones is far more valuable than the ability to fold into something smaller than the iPhone 12 Mini. Indeed, I'm more interested in seeing the water resistance and durability spread to iPads than any kind of folding ability for either iPhones or iPads.
Why would you assume that they are exclusive? That's it's either/or?
To get to this point of resistance to fluid ingress and tolerance for mechanical loads has taken a great deal of engineering to solidify the perimeter, which is the antithesis of adding a hinge or fold, so I would presume that it's exclusive because of the evidence of Apple's own actions in getting to this point.
Show me a hinge that has an integral hermetic seal, which remains hermetic through its entire service life. You will note that the hinges used in watertight doors on ships and submarines are not part of the seal; but merely positioning mechanism for the seal. In the case of the iPhone or iPad, either the hinge is part of the seal, or the location of the hinge is in a free flooding area, which further aggravates the loss of interior volume that the hinge itself already imposes.

That is, perhaps, true. (Or, maybe not)
But the point was that all the whining and complaining about it stopped as soon as Apple released it in the iPhone 12.
It was an analogy to all the whining and complaining going on now about foldable phones. That too will stop when Apple releases a foldable phone.

And that is why we ended up with antennas that short out in normal usage, phones that bend, and i9 MacBooks that overheat and throttle.

Did it? I see plenty of people here complaining about battery life over 5G. The complaining certainly didn't stop when Apple did it.

Interesting... I haven't heard any of the "5G is worthless. We don't want it. We don't need it." that pervaded these forum until the iPhone 12 was released.

Then you aren't paying attention. It's still not being used by people in this country. That will take many years to happen.

GeorgeBMac only hears what he wants to hear. No use pointing him toward evidence as he'll ignore it and continue with his belief that because he thinks something is so, it must be true.

LOL.... Quick! You'd better let Apple, Verizon and T-Mobile know that nobody's using 5G before they waste more money on it!

Because its coverage is severely limited right now and will take years to grown out, you think that tech companies should give up on it until there is widespread coverage? Are you really not aware of how tech companies are needed to create the coverage which then creates the user base or are you just being a dick in feeble attempt to backpedal?

LOL... I guess that sarcasm went right over your head.
Actually, around here T-Mobile has pretty good 5G coverage already.
