Apple ceases iOS 14.2, iOS 14.2.1 code signing following iOS 14.3 release
Apple on Thursday stopped signing code for iOS 14.2 and the subsequent iOS 14.2.1 point update following December's release of iOS 14.3.
The cease of code signing comes nearly a month after iOS 14.3 was pushed out on Dec. 14 and effectively stops users from downgrading to an older version of the operating system.
Apple regularly stops signing out-of-date code to prevent users from installing old iOS versions following the release of a new version, a practice that keeps users safe from new threats and ensures devices are running the latest feature-rich software.
The latest iOS 14.3 delivered long-awaited access to the Apple ProRAW image format for iPhone 12 Pro devices, Apple Fitness+, updates to the Apple TV app, and support for AirPods Max.
Apple is currently testing the upcoming iOS 14.4 beta that should launch in the coming weeks.
