Apple on Friday updated its Leadership page to include John Ternus as SVP of Hardware Engineering, a role into which the executive transitioned when former engineering lead Dan Riccio stepped down in January.

The updated webpage includes a link to Ternus' work history at Apple and a short biography. As SVP of Hardware Engineering, Ternus is a direct report to CEO Tim Cook and will lead "all hardware engineering, including the teams behind iPhone, iPad, Mac, AirPods, and more."

Ternus joined Apple's Product Design team in 2001 and worked his way up the corporate ladder to vice president of Hardware Engineering in 2013. The executive worked on a number of major products including every iPad model, iPhone 12 and AirPods, and has been the face of Mac's shift to Apple Silicon at recent keynote events.

Before Apple, Ternus earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and worked as a mechanical engineer at Virtual Research Systems.

In January, Ternus was named Apple's hardware chief after Riccio stepped down to lead a "new project" for the tech giant. Riccio is reportedly overseeing development of Apple's AR and VR initiatives.

Congratulations John. So much talent at Apple. I have a feeling that SJ would be very pleased with developments.

Good luck to John and his team! Our livelihoods and everything flowing downstream from them depend, to a significant degree, on John and Craig’s work.

You probably thought that sounded very clever while you were writing it.

How is he wrong.  Apple makes zero products that are clearly within the scope of mechanical engineering.  Apple Car would be the first, right?
