'iPhone 13' will have bigger batteries than the iPhone 12 family, leaker claims

The "iPhone 13" family will have bigger batteries than the iPhone 12, a leaker claims, with all four models apparently gaining more battery capacity over their similar-sized counterparts.




It seems that one of the benefits of the next iPhone generation could be longer battery life. Apple is said to be preparing three larger-capacity batteries for use in the "iPhone 13" range, with three different capacities mirroring the levels of the current iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro range.

According to an image from Chinese social media shared by serial leaker "@L0vetodream" on Twitter, the three are three battery capacities, covering the model numbers A2653, A2656, and A2660. These model numbers may relate to the iPhone models themselves.



The three battery capacities are listed as 2,406mAh, 3,095mAh, and 4,352mAh. When compared against comparable models, the 2,406 is a step up from the 2,227mAh used in the iPhone 12 mini.

The 4,352mAh is a large jump from the 3,687mAh unit used in the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the 3,095mAh is a solid improvement on the 2,815 battery used in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

While the rumors seem plausible given @L0vetodream's good track record, there's no guarantee the leak is genuine until Apple releases new products this fall.

    Hope this is true. If I can get a bigger battery in the 13 Mini I will buy it ASAP.

    Here, I thought the iPhone Mini was not going to be refreshed because its sales were so bad compared to the other phones. 

    But I think no one looked at the real numbers.

    If that’s the case then I’ll buy the 12 Mini and slap a battery case on it. Though I can’t imagine the Mini getting the 120Hz display or the always on display, wouldn’t those features be reserved for the Pro Models?

    Exactly. Just because it might be the lowest volume iPhone, does not mean the sales were insignificant.

    I'd bet that the battery is growing because something is consuming a bit more power and that the battery life rating will remain essentially the same.
    Battery life is more than acceptable for most users, most of the time.

    Let's hope Apple can make the devices lighter, too, though, because heavier will be a huge downer. The 12 Pro MAX is already over half a pound, which is ridiculous.

    I'll purchase the iPhone 13 mini when Apple provides the "Pro" version, stainless steel is a must for me. Will turn off 5G and the always on display feature.
    I'm good with everything else including the fact that it will have the same screen size as my current iPhone X.

    What’s the hourly difference in battery life between you and your wife’s Apple Watch? Can you turn off the Always On feature on the new watches?

    Yes, you can turn it off. I sure don't see the point just to save battery life though, given you're going to need to charge it about once a day anyway — I do that at my desk for an hour or whatever it takes midday when I'm not moving around and needing it. The always-on display on my AW6 is awesome.

    I imagine the larger battery is to preserve the run time with the alway on display On and not necessarily increase the battery life. As I don't care for that feature I'd turn it off and get a bit more On time or reserve power. My Watch has the feature and I don't use it because Raise Wrist works so well.

    How would an Always On display differ from the Auto Lock being set to Never? Would it always show the Home Screen, or the last screen used? Maybe controlled with Control Center instead of wading through Settings.

    Nothing stupid about Always On as long as it's an option, and I can't imagine it wouldn't be. Use it as a desk clock, timer, watch video, a lot of the typical functions where looking at the phone would be more convenient in a stand (charging or not). Easy enough to implement, easy enough not to, if that's your preference.
