Gartner: Apple sold 1 million more Macs year over year in Q2
New estimates from Gartner claim that Apple sold over 6 million Macs in the second quarter of 2021, up from 5 million in the same period in 2020.

Reporting mostly similar figures to IDC, Gartner estimates that a total of 6,086,000 Macs were sold in the second quarter, exactly a million more than the 5,086,000 in Q2 2020. Apple's share of the worldwide PC market also grew, from 7.4% to 8.5%.
Overall, the research firm estimates that 71.6 million PCs were sold worldwide. That figure includes both Windows PCs and Macs, plus what Gartner describes as "ultramobile premiums (such as Microsoft Surface)." It doesn't include Chromebooks or iPads.
The figure of 71.6 million total shipments represents an increase of 4.6%. However, that follows the previous Q1 2021 which had seen 35.7% growth.
"The global semiconductor shortage and subsequent component supply constraints have extended lead time for some enterprise mobile PC models to as long as 120 days," said Gartner's Mikako Kitagawa, in a statement. "This has led to prices increasing in the bill of materials, which vendors have passed on to end users."
Gartner expects that shortages and higher prices are set to continue. "Moving forward, rising prices could continue to slow PC demand through the next 6 to 12 months," aid Kitagawa.
