Sorry. If they launch without Touch ID Apple can kiss post-pandemic sales bye-bye. Calls to warrant masks again make it important as ever. I’ll jump to an Android.
Or, buy the SE. Or a Watch.

The battery life of the SE is worse than the Mini.

I wear gloves a LOT more than I wear a mask. And with the mask recognition entering my passcode into my iPhone 12 max pro takes a moment.

As to battery? Meh. I carry an Apple MagSafe pack and never charge my 12 max pro over 80% or let it drop much below 20% (previously it was a small Anker and a cable, this is so much better). Today my battery just ticked down to 96%. Oh and I also avoid anything like fast charging as that cramming power is abusive to Li batteries. Pesky chemistry.

Wouldn’t a 12 Mini still be under the initial 12 month warranty? Meaning a new battery is free?

    iPhone Owners

Your battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles. The one-year warranty includes service coverage for a defective battery. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery service. Prices and terms may vary”

Oh, please. Give it a rest. Will not affect sales one iota.
It's a minor annoyance to enter a passcode when you are wearing a mask and it goes away all together if you have an Apple Watch. Many people will still only wear a mask for a small portion of the day. Enjoy your Android device.

I’m a physician working in a Covid ICU, and I can tell you that Covid again has gotten as bad as it was near the beginning of the year, and getting worse by the day.  For me at least, masks aren’t going away, at work or in public.

Initially, it was slightly painful to have to enter my password every single time I used the phone because Face ID wouldn’t work.  However, with the Apple Watch, it’s now mostly seamless.

I agree with the above poster.  Enjoy your Android device.  You will just make the wait for my new iPhone slightly shorter.
The fact that the virus is getting worse by the day means that the pandemic will end sooner. For herd immunity we need 70% to 80% of the people either fully vaccinated or to have contracted the virus. So the more people that get the virus, the sooner that will happen. This pandemic should be completely over by next spring.
Let’s hope you are right.   In addition,  there is another vaccine coming.  The Novavax vaccine is more traditional type of vaccine than the experimental stuff going on now.  In development over a year and reportedly much lower side effects.  Here’s hoping the combo of herd immunity and safe working vaccines win.

There’s a glitch with Novavax. “Novavax delays Covid vaccine emergency authorization submission to FDA until fourth quarter” https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/05/novavax-covid-vaccine-fda-emergency-use-submission-delayed-to-q4.html While the currently FDA authorized vaccines are free, safe and work. Adjuvants can cause issues: they’re usually prohibited with lab animals, so I wonder? “ NVX-CoV2373 is a subunit vaccine made from a stabilized form of the coronavirus spike protein using the company’s recombinant protein nanoparticle technology. The purified protein antigens in the vaccine cannot replicate or cause COVID-19. The vaccine also contains a proprietary adjuvant, MatrixM™. Adjuvants are additives that enhance desired immune system responses to vaccine. NVX-CoV2373 is administered by injection in liquid form and can be stored, handled and distributed at above-freezing temperatures (35° to 46°F.) A single vaccine dose contains 5 micrograms (mcg) of protein and 50 mcg of adjuvant. The vaccine is administered as two intramuscular injections 21 days apart. The technology used for this vaccine was developed under a long-standing contract with the Department of Defense. ” https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/us-clinical-trial-results-show-novavax-vaccine-safe-prevents-covid-19 Otherwise delivering the spike protein to the patients immune system. Much like the mRNA tech does.

I get the fully loaded  new top model every year. Then my current model goes to the wife. She has four daughters and one gets an upgrade as well. Sometimes there is another trickle down that goes to another sister. We get the value of the yPhones handed down thru the family.

The wife and I have Verizon on the e-chip and an actual UK O2 sim card as well. Her family is in the UK & Ireland. So we now need only one "cell" phone where we had to have two a few years back.

Progress is great most of the time.

Nonsense. If you don’t want your images checked to see if they’re child pornography prior to uploading them to the commercial iCloud Photos servers, simply don’t use iCloud Photos. Or Dropbox. Or Gmail. Or One Drive. Or Twitter.

But good luck with an android that doesnt have real spyware.

Or don't be taking suspicious photos, to begin with?
