Hank Azaria tapped to play Tim Cook in new Showtime series about Uber

Hank Azaria is set to play Apple CEO Tim Cook in Showtime series "Super Pumped," which chronicles the rise of ride-sharing app Uber.

Azaria will join a cast that includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kyle Chandler, and Kerry Bishe, Variety has reported. Gordon-Levitt will star as Uber CEO and co-founder Travis Kalanick, while Chandler will play Texas venture capitalist Bill Gurley and Bishe will star as Uber's fourth employee, Austin Geidt.

The series is based on the book of the same name by Mike Isaac. It follows Kalanick and his "sometimes tumultuous relationship" with mentor Gurley and details the "roller-coast ride of the upstart transportation company."

Each season of the series will focus on a different major business world story, according to Variety.

Beth Schacter will serve as a co-writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer of the series alongside Brian Koppelman and David Levien. Paul Schiff, Allyce Ozarski, and Stephen Schiff will also serve as executive producers. Isaac, who wrote the book, is co-executive producer.

    after Christian Bale (and really everyone else) in Vice, I think we all gotta wait and see before mocking these casting choices

    I know Christian, and Hank is not in the same league...that said, you of course are correct.

    Fact...

    Heath Ledger as "Joker"
    Christian Bale as "Batsman"
    Ben Affleck as "Batman"

    What do these folks have in common (other than being in "Batman")?  They were all skewered and crucified by Internet nobodies and armchair casting directors all saying they had zero business being in such a role.  Every critique was on the table.  It was actually quite pathetic.

    And now?  Many of those basement-dwellers are nowhere to be found and scurried away like rodents after their stellar performances.  They're probably hoping that no one calls them out.

    I actually love Hank Azaria.  I think he is a fantastic actor and good person.  It's nice to see him back in front of the camera.

    Indeed.  Makes me wonder if his protesting the Apu character was a contract negotiation to allow him to do other things - like this.

    Hank Azaria just stopped playing Apu because Apu was a different ethnicity than Azaria was.

    Now Azaria is playing someone of a different orientation. It seems like he hasn't learned much.

    I strongly doubt there will be any meaningful representation of Tim Cook's sexuality in a film about Uber.
