iPhone 13 Pro Max is Apple's undisputed battery life champion

A comparative test putting all of Apple's currently available iPhones shows the new iPhone 13 range is significantly better, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max beats everything.

All reviews of the iPhone 13 range agree that battery life is much improved over 2020's iPhone 12 range, and that's chiefly down to a new design that enables a larger battery. Now, however, one YouTuber has put every iPhone, that Apple currently sells, through the same real-world test, and found the iPhone 13 Pro Max is extraordinarily long-lasting.

"The Pro Max lasted just under 10 hours," says economics student Arun Maini, whose YouTube channel is called Mrwhosetheboss. "This is not just the highest score I've ever recorded. It is miles ahead of anything else."

"It's not just a case that you won't have to worry about battery life here," says Maini. "It is more, they will actively impress you, in looking through Apple's past lineup, does not happen very often."






Maini took each of the seven iPhone models currently available from Apple, and ran them through the same tests.

Unsurprisingly, the iPhone SE was the weakest, with a battery life of just 3 hours, 38 minutes. The iPhone 11 was not a great deal better, at 4 hours, 20 minutes.

Most notably, aside from the iPhone 13 Pro Max's record-breaking result, was how the iPhone 13 mini's 6 hours, 26 minutes beat the iPhone 12 by 32 minutes.

Then in this one test, the iPhone 13 notched up 7 hours, 45 minutes. The iPhone 13 Pro reached 8 hours, 17 minutes, which Maini says puts it in the top 5% to 10% of all phones his channel has tested.

"I'm also just relieved," he said, "because last year the iPhone 12 actually outlasted the 12 Pro, which really just didn't sit right with me."

Finally, the iPhone 12 Pro Max lasted 9 hours, 52 minutes.

    Am I missing something? Article says the 13pro max lasted just under 10 hours. Then at the end it says the 12pro max lasts 9 hours and 52 minutes.  How is this miles ahead of everything?

    It's a misprint.  If you what the video the 9 hours and 52 minutes is for the 13 Pro Max.

    To quote Arun Maini (the tester) on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, "This is not just the highest score I've ever recorded, it is miles ahead of anything else." And he's not just talking about iPhones, but Android phones as well. Even the iPhone 13 Pro ended up in the top 5-10 phones he's ever tested in regards to battery life. That's impressive, even if you're not easily impressed.

    The world is still largely bound by the pandemic. How important is battery life? My 12 Pro Max hasn't run out of power, ever.

    Good for you! I’m working constantly not within rage of a power up, so the extended battery life will be a welcome relief. I wish I were able to be around a charger all day.

    It was assumed the Promotion display in the upcoming 13 Pro would drain the battery quicker. Clearly, Apple found a way around that issue. I watched this whole video and I’m impressed with these results. 

    When the 11 Pro came out, I said I would wait for the design change of the 12. But friends who had the 11 Pro were going a couple of days on one charge! My XS Max was frequently at 1% by the time I left work for the day after being charged all night. I ran out and bought an 11 Pro Max just before the 12 came out because I figured Apple would see that as a mistake and scale back the performance. So I’m very impressed that the 13 Pro even outlasts my 11 Pro Max which still has amazing battery life. I’m glad I didn’t get the 12 Pro because the colors were boring. Hated the blue. The 13 Pro’s blue is MUCH better. That’s the one I would get, but I’m still gonna wait to upgrade because I love my midnight green color.
