The registration only lasts for one year

I think they are still in the talk.

If the talk goes south they only lose one year of subscription fee.

Yes because the $35 registration fee for an extra year is gonna put apple under . I love logic like this.

The registrar would lead me to believe someone is squatting. The nameservers are of no particular significance.

I hope they understand that these "just-in-case" jokes shake Nasdaq like there is no tomorrow. This is a good reason to keep even frivolous talks under tightest of wraps, unless they want to shock investors and shareholders. This is either more serious than we can afford to believe or just a provocation.

I'd be willing to bet it's just squatting - dumb squatting, at that. I doubt, if Apple bought Vivendi, that they'd want a web site called AppleUniversal.com or anything like that.

There's really no need to do this. Universal Music would remain a separate entity from Apple if it was bought.

But unless Vivendi sell Universal Studios and other Universal brands to Apple, I don't think that Apple can continue to use the Universal name and logo.
