While vigilant Apple Maps watchers previously spotted this update, Apple has officially announced the rollout of new Maps for Australia.

The update includes faster and more accurate navigation with comprehensive views of roads, buildings, airports, and shopping centers. New three-dimensional landmarks of locations like the Sydney Opera House are also new.

Siri also received the Siri Natural Language Guidance update, which helps to create natural-sounding directions that are easier to follow.

Soon, new, immersive walking directions will roll out for Sydney and Melbourne. Users will be able to raise their iPhone to scan buildings in the area, and Maps will generate a "highly accurate position to deliver detailed directions that can be viewed in the context of the real world."

Other features include Look Around, the street-level exploration feature designed to help users familiarize themselves with a place before visiting. Flyover, a feature that allows users to observe a location from above, has also been added.

Australia also gets Guides, a feature that provides a curated list of locations to eat, shop, and explore, created in partnership with trusted resources. Resources include Culture Trip, Louis Vuitton City Guides, Thrillist Australia, and more.

Apple has most recently been surveying Australia for Apple Maps from February 2021 through June 2021, and now the resulting data is being rolled out to users.

Apple continues to roll out new Apple Maps features worldwide. In September, Apple brought Look Around to Italy, along with improved navigation for Italy, Vatican City, and San Marino.

Australia is more than Sydney and Melbourne, Apple. Still, as long as it's a first step and not the only step...

Don't expect Australia's city of "Useless Loop" to get 3D maps any time soon. Hmm, that sounds like Apple's "Infinite Loop" address. The city of Useless Loop even has a road named "Useless Loop Road," and it's a straight road! They also have an airport named "Useless Loop Airport."

If I were the singer named "Uno Loop" from Estonia (apparently his real name), and if I moved there, my mail would have to be sent to me as follows:
    Uno Loop
    1 Useless Loop Road
    Useless Loop
    Australia

Yeah, I thought big deal to…
until I typed Sydney Australia in Apple Maps.
    I wouldn’t want to be Google Maps…
looking over their shoulder at Apple.

Look up feature is pretty comprehensive, it even has remote Gulf towns in it if not the Cape. It’s needs to be updated as some of the images must be close to three years old.  At my place it looks like 2019 peak drought, but along the bikeways in the park opposite it is lovely and green, suggesting quite recent.
It is a very good upgrade. The negatives is the 3D is not very good outside Sydney and Melbourne, while Brisbane for example is low res, and the satellite imagery is old, and not a decent resolution. As always, Apple Maps seems to suffer a severe resourcing problem.

also, the lookup binoculars needs to be on the satellite imagery, not just the map.
