hello!

now that i am a proud owner of an iPod, finally, does anyone know if apple will be making remote control, add on hardware, etc for an ipod? i was looking to see if i could find something about it, then i just decided to ask here.... thank you for any info and predictions....

have a great day!

p.s. i had "the white ipod headphone" envy for a while, to realize that they are not so great in quality... :-(

Well, Griffin Technology showed off an iPod remote control in January. I have no idea when it's coming out though.

Just out of curiousity, if you have an iPod, you have 1000 or 2000 songs in your pocket, so why do you need a remote? They are in your pocket, just reach in there?!

I don't see why there has to be a remote either, the iPod buttons are nice, big, and easy to find and click. Plus it's small, I don't see the purpose of a remote half the size of an iPod to do this.

\tI don't believe that Griffin has killed the project.

Also,Making the iPod into a remote would be great. Considering you would never not know where your iPod is, come on it cost at least 400 bones, you would always know where the remote is! You could download remote maps to the iPod for different TVs. The only thing that would not be that great is that there would not be any number pad but besides that, the iPod could be a great iRemote  <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

A remote is not so much a necessity as a convenience -

If you take good care of your iPod, perhaps you've got it in a case or something before putting it in your pocket. If you need to quickly pause to hear what stop the Subway is at or something, it's far easier to hit pause on a remote dangling at chest level that reach into the pocket, fish out the iPod, open up the protective case, then press pause only to reverse the process a couple of seconds later.

Because, when you're skiining with gloves on and the ipod is in your pocket or if you're trail riding on your motorcycle it would be nice to have a small controller that is waterproof.

yea or just pull your head phones off for a second...if you have earbuds...pull one out...if not then just rest them on your shoulder...it takes about 2 seconds

Actually, a real remote (wireless) would be pretty cool for people who have their iPods hooked up to their stereo. Some sort of receiver would plug into the firewire port I suppose.

    hello!

that's what i wanted to know also. the headphone jack in ipod looks a bit more "advanced" than typical headphone jack (then again, i am the least technical person, just a design "whore"). yes, ipod is small and the buttons are the greatest, but it will be really useful to have a small remote control like the one that comes with mini disc player, etc. (like one pictured above). i live in new york city, and as one of my favorite saying goes.... "don't count money infront of poor people..." it will be more discreet to have some sort ot tiny remote than to whip out an ipod in public.... for whatever reason...

    :-)

the same headphone jack is found on some of the panasonic MD players here in japan...iM gonna go try and see if it works to give me at least the basic functions [play, forward, back, stop]

i try to take care of my iPod [protective case], but all this pulling in-and-out of my pocket and case does scuff the thing up , all gives that extra chance of dropping that thing...iM surprised 3rd-party hasnT jumped on that bandwagon yet.

I recently saw a Samsung cellular phone that has Palm OS capability.

Question: How feasable would a device be that combines cell phone/pda/mp3 ?

I know I'm getting greedy here, but wouldn't that be great? Here's the new slogan:

Instead of "iPod. 2000 songs, in your pocket," it could be: "iPod. 2000 songs, 10,000 addresses, in your cell phone."
