Tesla adds Apple Wallet support for insurance policy cards on iOS

Tesla has added Apple Wallet support for insurance cards, allowing Tesla Insurance policyholders to add their cards to their wallets on iOS.

The automaker introduced Wallet support in version 4.5.0 of the Tesla iPhone app. Tesla's release notes indicate that "Tesla Insurance policyholders can add their insurance card to Apple Wallet."

Twitter user Coffee Table Tesla shared an example insurance card, which displays information such as a policyholder's name, policy number, and coverage details. The Apple Wallet support will allow Tesla Insurance customer to get a streamlined version of their policy that can be accessed on an iPhone's wake screen.

The Tesla app is a companion app for the company's vehicles, allowing users to see charge levels, unlock their cars, and more.

Tesla Insurance is an in-house insurance policy with rates based on real-time analysis of driving behavior in several states. The insurance plan is currently available in Arizona, Ohio, California, Illinois, and Texas.

In addition to storing documents like insurance policy cards in Wallet, Apple users will soon get the ability to add a digital version of their IDs or driver's licenses to the app. At launch, that will allow for quicker verification at TSA checkpoints, though long-term plans include the ability to use the digital IDs at bars or during police stops.

    I like that idea. It would be nice if my health insurance provider would do something similar. I don’t really like carrying insurance cards around in my wallet (or really, carrying a wallet at all) so I tend to leave them at home unless I’m going to an appointment. Having them available in Wallet would be great. That would also help, in theory, to cut back on having to get a new card issued every year, which I find annoying and wonder why it’s necessary.

    DAMN IT!!!  I got so excited when I saw a headline that started, "Tesla adds Apple Wallet support..."  This has to be the most evil and depressing personally targeted clickbait ever.  Well maybe someday they'll add support for the other thing they are selling.  (And NOT rocket trips to Mars thank you!)

    This is a good idea and I might forward the article to my insurance company because this should be an option everywhere.

    You can save an image of your health insurance card in countless locations. Setting up a note in Notes can be useful, especially since it has that handy scan feature which will format the card nicely in the note. You can also just create a custom Pass with your health card info on it.
