I’ve been waiting to buy a display again from Apple. Their current model is overkill for me so I went with an LG ultra wide, but I’d switch back in a second is they had one in the region of sub £1000

    Correction to my comment above

I was pretty sure (enough not to feel the need to check) that the USB-C ports on both the Apple XDR, and the LG 5K display, are all USB2 speed.  And I said so above.

It seems I was partly wrong. Maybe that was the case for the earlier generation LG 5K displays (?), but I was doing some comparisons today between both of those and the just announced ASD (Apple Studio Display), and it seems yes, the XDR's ports are USB2 only but the LG 5K's ports are USB3 (5Gbps).

Makes sense since the reason it's so limited on the XDR is saturation of the TB3 bus (at least that's my understanding). But if they can squeeze 6K + USB2 through it, then with only 5K (33% less pixels), they can squeeze much data than USB2 through it.

That said though, they've got 5K + USB3 (10Gbps) through it on the ASD, so maybe there's some kind of fancy on the fly compression going on, if needed... or... maybe I just don't know what the hell I'm talking about. 😉

    I stand corrected.
