iOS 16 beta 5 returns battery percentage to the status bar

A long-requested feature has finally returned to notched iPhones in iOS 16 -- battery percentage in the status bar.

When Apple released the iPhone X with a notched display, there was very little space for the status bar. So, Apple removed the ability to show battery percentage at all times.

This was because Apple would show a battery icon and text for the current battery percentage as two separate objects. Instead, Apple chose to reserve the space for cellular signal information and WiFi connection.

Now, the percentage is represented as a number inside of the battery indicator. This saves on space while keeping the number readable within the small icon.

The feature first appeared in iOS 16 beta 5. It isn't clear if this represents the final shipping version, or if the feature will make the final cut.

The new battery percentage feature isn't available on all devices running iOS 16. It seems limited to larger or newer devices. User reports say that the toggle is not available on any mini iPhone or the iPhone 11 lineup.

Apple is expected to release iOS 16 in September after the new "iPhone 14" is announced. Until then, expect more beta versions and tweaks to new software features.

    Finally!

For those of you that do have or use iOS 16 beta, all you need to do is go to “Battery” in Settings App and toggle on the “Battery Percentage” switch.

In IOS 15, I can toggle to display Battery charge number % next to Battery icon with charge level. This new change will move charge number inside battery icon. So, why this is better ?

it's not, because it will show a battery that has 30% left with a fully filled battery icon.

Late than never. Please make Battery icon green with inside white battery charge % left. Green represents charged battery with % how much left.

Yuck, I do not like the look of it inside the icon. It looks like some kind of developer mode option, and this is coming from someone that always had the percentage option in in the home button days.

When the hell will Apple restore the feature of the date line on the Lock Screen briefly showing you the charge percentage when the phone is plugged in? I know you can just add the battery widget to the Lock Screen but I don’t need to see the battery level all the time. I only want to see it when it’s charging so I know how much is left.

Absolutely insane that an adult wouldn't understand appropriate usage for "absolutely insane".
