4/20--Urban myth? ::smokey::

Okay... everyone has heard different stories... what is the significance of the #420 when it comes to pot?

(and i see we have THREE birthdays today Hitler was born today as well...)

The main story I have heard is that 420 is the police code for being caught smoking/in possession of MJ (analogous to 187 for homicide)... but that doesn't seem to sit well...

what is the story you heard?

    What does the number 420 signify, and why?

    The Jargon file has no entries for 420... \

    If I remember correctly, all these happened on April 20.
    • Hitler was born

    • The Branch Davidian compound was burned to the ground

    • The Oklahoma City bombing occurred

    • The Columbine massacre took place

    This is NOT generally a happy day in history, if in fact this is the correct date. \

    Waco and Oklahoma city were on April 19th. McVeigh probably chose that date because of Waco.

    I believe that Ruby Ridge may have been on the 19th of April. And of course Lexington and Concord was thereabouts as well. So it has lots of significance for delusional militia types.

    it's my understanding that where-ever 420 came from, it lost its original meaning and is quite untraceable. stoners use it now insomuch as it relates to weed. its like an excuse to get high (as if we needed one). if i have dutchie around 4, i try to wait till 420 just for the numeric significance. today (4/20) in particular is a very big weed day. if it weren't for "easter" i'd be high already. many stoners take to the streets and smoke more freely today, so be on the lookout, cuz 420 is a day to be generous. in some pot traditions, u aren't allowed to deny a [non narc] person some sustinence; kind of like a sicilian on his daughter's wedding day.
