Big Apple TV+ shows are coming to Blu-ray starting Oct. 31 [u]

Apple TV+ series "For All Mankind," "The Morning Show," "Truth Be Told" and "See" are to be released on Blu-ray and DVD -- but only in the UK.

The TV series "Defending Jacob" has already had a physical media release, and the Apple TV+ film "On the Rocks" has too, but now a slate of programming is coming to both DVD and Blu-ray.

Starting with the first season of "See" on October 31, 2022, a total of eight releases are planned between then and February 6, 2023. According to Twitter user Sigmund Judge, the release schedule currently comprises the first and second seasons for these high-profile Apple shows.

The shows are not being released by Apple. Instead, Judge reports that this release slate is from Dazzler Media, a UK video distribution firm. The company has since confirmed to AppleInsider that the titles are to be released solely in the UK.

DVDs are typically region-locked, though a manufacturer can elect to make them Region 0, which means they can be played anywhere. It's a similar situation with Blu-ray discs, so it's not yet possible to be sure whether the UK releases will play in the States.

Buying the few series you want on bluray will be a much better deal than a monthly subscription that doesn’t get used much.

Season 2 would come to about $26 USD, if it was releases in the US at the same price. That's 5 months of Apple TV+. Unless you would expect to watch the series multiple times (who really does that?) Paying for a month or two of ATV+ and watching the entire series is far more cost effective.

Don't you still get three months of free Apple TV+ if you buy any Apple device (and subscribe for Apple TV+ with a new iCloud account)? It used to be a free year, I think.

And don't you get a free 7-day trial for Apple TV+ even if you don't purchase anything? You can watch a lot of TV in 7 days. An entire season of most Apple shows should only take one-half day to watch. You could watch everything Apple has ever produced in that free week. Someone should try doing that.

Apple TV+ is $5 per month. How many times do you watch the same series over and over? For $5 you can watch all the series listed.

You know what doesn't get used much? My Blu-Ray player. Not once in the last couple years (at least).

The only physical media we have bought in the last ten years is vinyl. In fact, I just traded in a bunch of old blu-rays and about a thousand old CDs for some vinyl.

AppleTV+ shows are 4K, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. But enjoy your shiny discs.

I don’t know what your tastes are, but for us the Apple TV+ subscription is far and away the best value in streaming services in terms of how much there is that we enjoy watching. It’s the least expensive of any streamer we have, as well.

Other than For All Mankind (which is fabulous), we’re not even fans of most of the “hit” shows on Apple TV+, either. For us it is the “smaller” titles like Schmigadoon, Foundation, Home, Dickinson, Earth at Night in Color, See, Mythic Quest, Little America, The Problem with Jon Stewart, Long Way Up, Visible, Severance (genius), and the movies and documentaries they’ve done (uniformly excellent).

The kids programming is also incredibly good. If we had kids, that alone would easily be worth the fiver.

We rotate out (on a yearly basis) the more expensive services (currently enjoying Britbox and Disney+), and we’ve had Prime and Acorn TV (another good value) and others in the past. They’re all good, but for us Apple TV+ has a high ratio of stuff that is worth watching (wish I could say that about Netflix anymore …)

My home media purchases have become a lot less now than a few years back. However, given the option of either streaming Interstellar or watching it on my 4K disc, I'd choose the latter.
Buying discs of my favourite movies and shows removes the worry of them suddenly disappearing from my streaming service.

That said, Mythic Quest may be the only Apple TV+ show I'd currently buy.

Interesting that Apple will be releasing them on Blu-ray, a format for videos that macOS does not natively support. There are ways around it but they are time consuming
