Details are sparse... but reliable sources have indicated that Apple is going to be unveiling a new "communicating device" in the next few weeks... (potentially along side the April 28th announcement)

Reports indicate that the new device will not be a Phone or a PDA, but will be able to be connected to both a Cinema Display and a PowerBook.

Apologies for the cryptic information... no other details available.

    I'm guessing the Apple Post-It.

Can't think of anything else I can use to communicate with and can be attached to my Powerbook and my Cinema Display.

    It must be a Post-It!!!

Yeah, it's probably for deciphering those Macbiddouille rumours.

Mayhaps a SMS message device. Bluetooth or Airport. I'd love to be able to zap messages to my iSMS buddies.

but i could see how apple makes the market bigger by doing ip telephony "right"

better interface, easier setup, kick ass frame rates etc..

It would suck if it is a web cam [unless Apple releases a well documented how-to] because I can't seem to get any connection to my mac because of my linksys router. I can see others on cams, but no one can connect to me.

I hope it's something that i can use.

It's a in-home device to control your computer, hi-fi, maybe tv. It will have, purportedly, an 8 X 10 TFT screen. One site says the casing is being manufactured (MacWhispers?). Its a tablet of sorts. It will be unlike anything else on the market.

No, you've got the wrong device dude. There are two things going on here; 5 x 7 in (A5) comms, pda, remote contol, (phone?) iThing and the 8 x 10 in (A4) tablet, remote screen, thin client iThing.

Anybody got any clue what the hell is going on? How am I supposed to afford all this stuff (which I will have to buy obviously)

Where's Harald when you need him?

Time for him to spill the beans, I think.

I don't think so. But who knows?

I think the silliest thing is this constant wish for an iPhone. It simply isn't going to happen. I've posted before, but phones are in themselves unprofitable for the service providers. They make their money on the service plans. Apple, since it is not a manufacturer, would have to buy the devices from a company that does. No profits in phones. Too many systems, too many regulations. Bad idea me thinks.
