iPad 12.9 22 Thumb Print Sized Light Bleed immediately out of box, that can't be normal right?

After a rather unfortunate accident involving my 2018 iPad pro 11", I decided to eat the expense and upgrade to a 256gb 12.9" 2022 m2. Things started off really good until I changed to "dark mode". That is the point I realized, any white text in the upper corners of the screen, looked like someone was holding a flashlight behind it. My return to Costco is already in progress. I'm just curious if I'm alone in thinking it shouldn't look like that.

It's normal, it uses mini-LEDs for local bright and dark zones and it causes blooming around small, bright graphics:

Lowering the display brightness will probably help but it's the nature of mini LED.

I'm curious why my MBP doesn't have the same issue since it's the same screen supposedly. It's probably the best screen in the house for HDR imo. thanks for you advice

The MBP has some blooming too, there are some side by side pictures here:

The same images would have to be displayed on both and brightness levels set to the same. The different screen size and amount of LEDs will make a visual difference between them but it's also visible on Apple's $5k Pro Display XDR.

The only real solution is improved technology like micro LED or OLED.

Update Costco exchanged and the new one doesn't have the issue. Obviously there's always going to be some. But like my mbp this is not noticeable at all. I got lucky for once!
