After a tease at CES, Sony has officially unveiled its lineup of Bravia XR TVs compatible with the Apple TV app, AirPlay 2, and smart homes with HomeKit.

Five new models round out Sony's lineup of smart TVs, with features including New XR Clear Image for a fully immersive home theater experience. They include X95L and X93L Mini LED, X90L Full Array LED, A95L QD-OLED, and A80L OLED.

Although the TVs are based on Google's Android TV system, each model supports the Apple TV app, AirPlay 2 for wireless streaming, and Homekit for controlling various smart home devices. They also have compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google services like Assistant voice search.

Additionally, Sony has Acoustic Center Sync for each television set, which syncs the TV's audio system with the center channel of a compatible Sony soundbar for immersive sound. Except for the X93L, the TVs have a new XR Clear Image feature to improve noise reduction and clarity with motion to reduce blurring.

With the help of frame tweeters, Acoustic Multi-Audio+ on the X95L raises the sound to match the image on the screen. Meanwhile, Acoustic Surface Audio+ is a feature of the A95L and A80L models, which uses actuators that vibrate to produce sound from the entire screen in perfect sync with what is being played on screen.

Gamers will also find exclusive features in the 2023 Bravia XR lineup with Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode for optimized picture quality while gaming and streaming on a PlayStation 5. And a new Game Menu lets players tailor settings for Motion Blur Reduction, VRR, and a Black Equalizer to increase the brightness in dark areas.

On the A95L, a Multi-View option lets users watch walk-throughs and gameplay guides side-by-side or use the Screen Size feature to concentrate gaming with a smaller, focused screen.

2023 Sony Bravia TV pricing & availability

Sony will release pricing and retail availability sometime in the spring fo 2023. But on each TV's product page, there is an option to receive an email when it becomes available.

Pages for the X90L Full Array LED, X93L Mini LED, X95L Mini LED, A80L OLED, and A95L QD-OLED are found here.

Well, guess that means Apple doesn't have to build its own TV set. Other mfrs. are sure to follow, as they always do when features are added. I own a Samsung, and the Apple TV app does NOT work. I have and Apple TV 4K, so it's not a problem, but it makes me switch inputs and use a second remote when I want to see Apple content.
Yep, the Apple Discussion Forums are full of users trying to get the Apple TV app to work properly on their Android based TVs.

Sony TVs have supported Apple TV, Apple Play (not sure about AirPlay 2) and Homekit (only on and off) in the higher end H, J and K series.

FYI, the Apple TV app does not support things like Apple TV/Music purchases (but you can see and play what is in your library), Apple Fitness, etc. still need an Apple TV for that.

Also, the physical AppleTV device is also (for many) the HomeKit "hub" needed to establish a HomeKit-enabled network.

Never an issue for me on my TCL/Roku set. YMMV.

I gave away my ATV, as I didn't see a need for any of that; but I do see an Apple Music app on my TCL/Roku, and it does support airplay for anything I have locally.

    Again - YMMV.

I am curious to see if these Sony sets will support next gen ATSC 3.0 tuners. For me, an ATV box with a ATSC 3.0 tuner(s) and an antenna coax on the back would be an instant buy for me. That said, there is absolutely no way Apple will ever (ever) make such a thing.

Any TV which requires an Internet connection to get security and functionality updates is not one that I will ever buy. Not until these companies start to advertise, "Privacy is a Human Right."

I still think a DumbTV is best for me. My next TV WILL be a Sony; for video and build quality, not for apps or built-in speakers. I prefer my own individual components be hooked up (speakers, AppleTV, TiVo) thank you very much. And why based on AndroidTV? I thought Sony and Apple had a relationship at one time.

Good news! Buy any “smart” TV, then don’t connect it to the internet.

Then, buy an Apple TV box and connect IT to the internet. Voila! Now you have the privacy and security of Apple on your now-“dumb” TV, making it smarter than it ever was out of the box.

AppleTV app on any TV is a strip down version. The full AppleTV experience exists only on AppleTV hardware. Also AirPlay on AppleTV hardware has fuller experience than AirPlay on Samsung TV. AirPlay on AppleTV accepts close caption from iPad while AirPlay on Samsung TV doesn't. For that reasons and many others, AppleTV hardware is here to stay.

This was sort of possible w/the Android TVs. The new Google TVs are practically useless w/o an Internet connection.

I think he means his TV is too old to support the AppleTV app.  Only recent Samsung TVs support it, and it works just fine.
