What is the attraction with the iMac at this point? Why not get the Mac Mini, LG quality 27-32" monitor, and the keyboard/mouse and go to town?

Fewer cables, perfect integration, higher re-sale value, beauty.

Oh, fecking hell… first Gurman says, “Nope. No M3 devices.” Then sticks his fingers in his ears and walks out of the room. Then the next day, from the same Gurman, “Oh, definitely M3 devices. You heard it here first!” So, regardless if Apple releases M3 devices or not, he’ll be “right,” and he’ll be praised for his divine predictions.

The guy is a HACK job. Will you please stop quoting him?!

The timing is thought to coincide with Japanese business hours, because there is some sort of gaming announcement that involves a Japanese game company.
M3/A17 series are clearly capable of serious gaming, but MacBook Pro and gaming at the same event? But it does explain why Europe for this event is left in the dark.

I just remembered that Intel has meteor lake coming out in December. Maybe part of Apple’s motivation here is to beat meteor lake in pro laptops. Meteor lake is the first chip based on Intel 4, which is allegedly similar to TSMC 5/4 nm. So going to 3nm gives apple an edge

I'll be impressed if it gets more than a 20% performance bump, it should be the same as the M2 with more cores.

M2 uses same performance core as A15. A17 is about 25% faster than A15 on single thread geekbench. So not crazy to think m3 would be about 25% faster than m2 from process and micro architecture improvements.

Scary fast? What a joke. Waiting for years for a M3 27+inch iMac. This is more like scary slow.
You might as well be waiting for Godot. Listen: it has been 30 months since Apple buried the 27" iMac and iMac Pro. I realize you're still clinging to hope for a miracle, but they ain't comin' back from the dead. Fortunately for you, Apple also giveth and didn't just taketh away. You now have great and powerful Mac Mini options to pair with the screen size of your choice. And the iMac Pro diaspora can now choose a Mac Studio and Studio Display for high end horsepower and monitor quality that's cheaper than the iMac Pro.

The all in one Mac has always been a great value computer price-wise, particularly with Apple providing a damn good curated monitor with a Mac computer, those 5K 27 inch iMacs can’t be beat particularly when Apple was offering the target display mode feature.

I think Apple is working up to releasing a 5K monitor and beyond with higher refresh rate, but that takes bandwidth and the thunderbolt 5 (single connection) to make happen, many people can’t seem to wrap their heads around that when complaining about the current 60 Hz monitors.

Currently the PC display market is all over the place quality wise, a basement gaming monitor, isn’t the same as a monitor designed for production work. (in short you make a compromise when you make your choice).
