Fun fact: thanks to iPhone, Apple makes more from gaming than all other gaming platform manufacturers COMBINED: Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, etc. So anyone who thinks Apple "isn't successful" at gaming needs to think again. They may not be successful in the way that you would like them to be, but they've still managed to create the most profitable gaming business in the gaming industry.

And because of that trust from customers Apple can take their time, however in the long term a in house Apple gaming engine may be the only way forward no one wants to hear it but at some point you reach the end. And that includes making/sponsoring two or three games showing what really can be done with native Apple Silicon hardware with software designed for it. Like most things in Apples history they don't get done unless Apple does it.
damn straight. and it's idiotic that they don't. Decades of development and they failed. The Huge market for Games and they Ignore it. They Could have Easily come up with a Game console on the side like Microsoft did and made a few billion. The Investment could have been worth it and still is. How to get people use a mac? after they;re done working on it, watching a movie or listening to music, what else can we(apple) get them to continue using it? Hmm.. But They ignore it and let users wander off and go to xbox/playstation with their attention. Is that Smart? no. I know playing games on the iphone is dumb as the various games overheat the phone and kill the battery life. Apple has killed various tools on the mac that would have been good for gaming, why? They should stop being the stick up the butt luxury company and start catering toward the common users. No one is gonna buy those stupid glasses in todays' economy, and it's not for kids anyway so your market is strictly limited. The Games? It has a wide audience and can hook your user base.
What would happen if Apple Tomorrow Released a Game Console by Surprise? There would be soo much attention and interest. The Stock would go up, they would open up another revenue stream and have lines clamoring to buy it. So The question is, WHY Hasn't they done so? Idiocy.
I am probably counted as an Apple Arcade subscriber because it's part of my Apple One subscription, but I have never used Arcade. I have zero interest in Arcade and Fitness+ and very low interest in News+. However, Apple was extremely precise in how they established the Apple One bundles to ensure that anyone who wanted the most in-demand features, like more than 200 GB storage, Apple Music, and Apple+, is compelled to go with the highest tier bundle, which includes those additional no-to-low value apps. In my opinion.
Going with the top tier Apple One subscription costs roughly the same (with 2 TB storage) as paying for iCloud+, Apple Music, and Apple+ A la carte. I'm not complaining because I'm getting more than I need with the three high value apps. But part of me still wishes Apple could come up with some sort of lower cost 3-piece bundle with less storage, even 400 GB or 500 GB would still be far more than sufficient, and throw in some savings by lopping off the three no-to-low value apps. I'm thinking something around $19.99 for a "family" plan would be nice. If "family" implies gaming, call it an "empty nester" or "partners" plan because it wouldn't include Arcade.
I understand that some folks still find a lot of value in Fitness+ and Arcade, so maybe Apple should give away a one-year subscription to Fitness+ and Arcade with the purchase of any Apple Watch, iPhone, or iPad and then make them available at a significantly reduced price (say $1.99/mo each) for those people who actually signed up for the free one-year subscriptions. Where would this leave News+? At the curb.

Those facts don't matter to all the armchair CEOs who "know better" how to create success.
Apple TV. Especially with an M processor could be the console if they wanted to put a small amount of investment in and get some exclusives. With the added benefit of probably being able to support iPhone/iPad and Mac as well with derivative versions.
I’m not a console gamer in the least (we have a Switch to play Mario Kart as a family ). And not much of a mobile gamer any longer and my favorite Mac games are the complex strategy games like Europa Universalis and that sort of thing or Railroad Tycoon types. But I see the Apple TV and what it could be when I see all the time my son spent on his PlayStation (that he bought with his own money as I didn’t want it in the house) and the money he spent in monthly online services.

You might want to read my post above your own. Not only has Apple NOT ignored gaming, but they have the most successful and profitable gaming platform in the industry: it's called iPhone. Apple earns more profit on gaming than all the major gaming platform manufacturers combined, thanks to the cut Apple takes from games for iPhone. You rail that Apple "should stop being the stick up the butt luxury company and start catering toward the common users," but they do exactly that--cater to common users--with the vast library of inexpensive games for iPhone. YOUR solution to "catering to common users" is for Apple to develop a $500 console to compete with Xbox and Playstation to run games that cost $50-$70 each for the best titles. It's a virtual certainty that Apple carefully looked into the economics of that business and decided it wasn't worth it. But maybe you should write to Tim and set him straight.
As for "those stupid glasses no one is gonna buy" -- Apple sold $630 MILLION worth of them the first weekend, halfway to its estimated sales target for the entire year, which it should hit with ease. And this is clearly a v1.0 product for early adopters who can afford it, knowing that a better and cheaper model will come along in 18-24 months.
Apple is so godd**n stupid with their “gaming efforts”. Here you have a full fledged service in the middle of the App Store - the only App Store on iOS tvOS and iPadOS - along with announcements and grandstanding of how console level games can be played on their newest hardware. WHY AREN’T MORE AAA GAMES MAKING IT TO ARCADE???? Why aren’t Apple TVs being made with it in mind??? Why didn’t they try to get games like RE4 and Death Stranding on the service?? Arcade has the infrastructure and hardware it needs to be a mainstream Steam, but Apple just has their heads up their asses when it comes to reaching the potential of their services in general. They need to do better.
Why aren't more AAA games making it to Arcade? Because AAA games now consume tens and hundreds of millions of dollars of development resources, and they will not be profitable on the pittance Apple pays out from Arcade games, that's why.
Note that I'm addressing the issue of Arcade, not Apple devices in general.

The budgets for some games are way too high. There were job cuts announced recently by Sony and some of the studios worked on big games like Spider-Man. The following site says the budget for Spider-Man 2 was $315m and projected budgets for Wolverine and Spider-Man 3 were $305m and $385m:
This shows the scale they operate at. Microsoft's gaming department has 20k employees and around 40 studios after buying Activision. Big budget games take a long time to make - 3-6 years and a company has to release dozens of games in that timeframe.
To launch a AAA game every month, it needs over 20 studios working in parallel. This is why companies want to get more recurring revenue from games like Fortnite, Roblox and Candy Crush - live service where they are played for a long time.
Most of the top live service games are mindless shooters but ones like Minecraft, The Sims, Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing are quite wholesome games and would be better suited for Arcade. This is probably why they put Disney Dreamlight Valley on Arcade recently, some reviewers have hundreds of hours of play time, the reviewer below has 1400 hours:
There aren't many good independent studios that Apple can buy. All that's really left, excluding Asian studios, are: EA, Roblox, Take 2, Ubisoft, Playtika, CD Projekt Red, Embracer Group, Paradox Interactive, Remedy, People Can Fly, Don't Nod, CI Games, Focus, Atari and some lesser-known companies and many don't want to be bought or are part owned by Tencent, NetEase etc:
I think they missed an opportunity with Tomb Raider. Embracer Group got that IP and the studios for $330m. That would have been a good franchise to have exclusive on Apple devices. They could potentially buy Embracer Group, which has a market cap of $2.4b. 16000 employees across over 100 studios, 850 franchises, in a single buyout with some big IP and it's profitable.
$2.4b doesn't seem like a big investment for what they get if the investors are willing to sell. They are willing to make exclusive partnership deals too. Amazon made a deal for Tomb Raider:
Apple has been making some inroads with Resident Evil and Death Stranding, new developments take 3+ years to make it to market. Apple doesn't need to be a gaming competitor to Microsoft, Sony etc, some strategic investments are enough.

True, but irrelevant. The budgets are what they are, and too high or not, they still need to be recoverable in order to be profitable. Arcade can't provide that scale of revenue.
For the games with smaller budgets, such as the guy in his living room, Arcade seems like a decent deal, but there's a reason, for instance, that Hello Games didn't put No Man's Sky in Arcade.
