I read through all the comments and was pleasantly surprised that this time no one said silly things like "sure, Donny, that happened".  Seems that everyone believed this article, which is a positive change.  The fact a CEO can talk to a former or current President isn't a bad thing, regardless of one's political leanings.

He has only one agenda - thwart antitrust regulation. Hopefully Vance keeps his viewpoints here and has influence.

There is one good thing from all of this: Mother Nature and her cringe show won't be in any presentation for the next 4 years.

Time to buy your tech now before the tariffs come into play. If he keeps his promises of course.

FYI- The government, (any country's government for that matter), can open or eventually open in about 6 months,  any smartphone, by paying the Israel company Cellebrite to do it for them. In June of this year, it's rumored that Cellebrite can already hack into any iPhone running iOS 17.3 or earlier. iOS 17.3 came out in the beginning of this year. Meaning it only took about Cellebrite 6 months find a hack.

And it's even easier to find a hack for phones running Android.

By the government demanding that Google and Apple provide a  "backdoor" to the encryption on their mobile OS, only saves taxpayers money. In no way do Google and Apple not providing a "backdoor", prevent the government from opening your phone.

bad on you tim, there is nothing sane about this horrible human being…
Tim Cook is the face of a multi national corporation and has to deal with many heads of state.
He’s also shown to be a class act and no matter who’s he dealing with, Xi Ping, Biden, Trump …, he always navigates with caution.
That is what you want a CEO to do.

OTOH he can act like Elon Musk and shoot from the hip and cause massive problems for Apple.

My choice would be the former.

Well Biden tried to sue Apple for all kinds of crazy stuff. So as an AAPL Shareholder that doesn't have to live in this shit hole country that re-elected that convicted felon, I think it's great to re-fresh old business relations with that orange idiot.

... and then poor Tim vomited.

The threatened crippling import Tax on foreign goods could severely damage Apple.  Hopefully, Apple will either be further ahead of decentralizing products than is generally known or given a pass if it puts the Home Button back.

From a stockholder perspective how does the 4 years prior (2013-2017), during (2017-2021), and after (21-current) affect Apple positively and/or negatively with US relations and how does another 4 years and beyond can be predicted?

Maybe this time the jerk will give Cook the basic courtesy of getting his name right. He deliberately referred to him as Tim Apple to let Cook know who was boss. That's very childish behavior for someone who sees himself as a world leader dealing with CEOs and others who play a role in the economy.

Here's where we see if there are sufficient handles to keep Trump from doing stupid things like the 100% tariff that he claimed would eliminate taxes. Cook isn't the only CEO worried about that. Trumpp says the oversees manufacturers will pay the tariff and it's all good. But it's just not that simple. We the consumer in order to buy a more perfect product would/will be saddled with an increase equal to at least the amount of tariff. We'll balk at price hikes when making larger purchases. I don't Apple or any other seller reducing the profit margin to give us a break.

Cook knows the effect a tariff could have on sales and has to work with the cards he's dealt. If he doesn't extend his professionalism to the orange menace he risks being target and is more vulnerable this time than last. It's going to be an ugly four years with no noticeable improvement after that.

Like his former Wharton School professor said, he's "the dumbest g*ddm student I ever had in my life." Still doesn't know who pays tariffs.

He may be a bit of a loose canon (understatement) but not everything his administration touches was bad.  In this instance alone there was tremendous benefit to those non executives from Apple and several larger US companies

The Tax Cuts and Job Acts from 2017 (2018?)

    https://www.federalreserve.gov/econres/notes/feds-notes/us-corporations-repatriation-of-offshore-profits-20190806.html

allowed for the repatriation of Billions of dollars.  Apple was one of several fortune 100 companies to make use of that in tangible ways for current employees.

Don’t  give me that it was only so that “millionaires  could pay millionaires” BS either. I’m sure some did benefit, but I also know  of  wayyyyy too many rank and file from some of those large corporations who have benefited directly from this bill  - they got an extra holiday others got standing bonus and other perks  as result of this repatriating of money.

Resulting in massive stock buybacks, skyrocketing executive suite compensation and eventually tens of thousands of layoffs among the tech class.

Tech over-compensating for Covid changes to  remote work / school had nothing to do with those layoffs, just the repatriating of money??

Yeah, ok - got it - smh

It's only natural for one of the greatest companies in American history to work closely with one of the greatest Presidents in American history.

So far, Tim Cook working with Trump (during the 4 years of his first Presidency) had been more fruitful for Apple (and its share holders), than working with M. Vestager of the EU Commission.

Of course, that might change during his second Presidency as Vestager is on her way out and who knows how the new appointed EU Commissioner will deal with the big 5 US corporations. This time around, POTUS Trump might be more troublesome for Apple, than the EU Commission.

You conveniently sidestepped my first two points (stock buybacks and exec comp) and added something I didn't comment on (BTO policies). The layoffs are a backdoor plan to boost the first two points. Tech firms will rehire in smaller numbers at lower pay and use that to justify even more stock buybacks and even higher exec compensation. Rinse & Repeat!
