This is outstanding.  Congrats to Apple for displaying the official name.  Same with Mount McKinley.  Fort Bragg is next.
    Gulf of Mexico.

    Denali.

    Fort Liberty.

I hope your messiah hangs in there. #piazzaleloreto

It's been the Gulf of Mexico for hundreds of years and I'm not calling it anything else. Hopefully the next administration will be able to clean up the mess this current circus is making.
    Yeah, about the next administration…

The Trump 2nd *term* has seemed rather well-organized in comparison to the 1st *term*, yes? Hit the ground sprinting, one might say.

Vice President Vance will preside over the counting of the electoral votes on 1/6/29. He may even be one of the two candidates.

Suppose the Democratic candidate wins the most electoral votes according to the final Election Day results but the margin is a couple dozen EVs. Flipping the EVs of three battleground states would change the outcome.

Imagine if the 2nd *term* is just as well-organized should this scheme become necessary.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_fake_electors_plot

No serious person believes Vance wouldn’t reach for some ginned-up election fraud controversy, aided and abetted by The Federalist Society and the Extreme Court, to steal the WH.
idk if it would be Vance. Trump said today that he doesn't see him as the successor. Trump is the immortal god king, don't get it confused. He's already talking about a third term. (edited post in quotes. Original deleted. We can't leave that kind of stuff up, but the commentary outside of that language was fine.)

Why not just rename it the Gulf de Gringo. That will satisfy Mexico and the US and end the spat over a sill naming of a body of water.  :D
'Gulf of the Americas'. Everyone wins, not that the current admin would value such.

But these people get worked up over pronouns to match identity.

    What an embarrassment to humanity.
    You mean your President?
    I don't find Frank-Walter Steinmeier particularly embarrassing. Should I?

Then again, he doesn't have a lot to say, being mostly a ceremonial figure.

If the BGN has officially renamed it, fair enough. But I would hope that Apple waits until UNGEGN changes (or not) the name before they apply this change internationally. Otherwise what will happen next, London will appear as New Washington just because Trump signs an Executive Order?

It’s pretty simple really.  We (the USA) can call the gulf whatever we want.  Likewise, other nations can call it whatever they want.

I am a lifelong resident of the gulf coast.

The MAGA ethic can only "win" if the other side loses.

That's why the diplomatic community is resigned to treating him like a toddler with a gun.

A question for all you naysayers.  Just what country do you think has kept and continues to keep this Gulf militarily protected and safe for those of us who live, boat, fish, and play on the beaches of THE GULF OF AMERICA?  When I was a young lad there was a bumper sticker that read "AMERICA Love it or Leave it!"  So to be honest this should be speaking to some of you in the either.

And if it had been changed to the gulf of APPLE or some other ridiculous name (that we could not post) Apple Inc. would have changed it that night!  If you are an American you are also FREE TO HIT THE BRICKS.  I bet you would be back within 6 months.

Useless distraction to keep us minions focused on stuff that doesn’t matter while the basic fabric of American Democracy and things that do matter are transformed by blatant corruption.

The Gulf of Mexico doesn’t care what we call it or what other countries call it.

If you bend your knee for the little things, how willing are you to bend your knee for the big things?
Is rounding up documented immigrants along with the undocumented too much?
Is taking away a child's citizenship because of the color of their skin too much?
Would you let them put your child in a camp because of who they love?
At what point does disagreeing with the government justify arrest?
Are forced labor camps too much?
Where do you draw the line?

Our beaches are being "militarily invaded"? I'm not aware that the 4th fleet has engaged in any enemy action since WWII or maybe the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Just like renaming Jerusalem and taking Palestine off the map. US run by AIPAC these days. Certain people who believe they are the chosen ones seem to think that everything belongs to them 😏

Ok, yeah. That was a bunch of nonsense we don't need here. My bad for engaging. Deleted the entire thread including my comments to be fair. This forum isn't a place for bigoted ideology and besides, none of it was even close to what could be considered on topic. Let's stick to discussing Apple's role in being a tech company and not dive into political rants.

I understand you deleting my original comment, that’s cool.

I do think Apple should have stood up though. As the old saying goes “Evil triumphs when good men do nothing”. To just go along is to assure that next time the President will be emboldened.
It's certainly a tough spot to be in. I do not envy Tim Cook right now.
Yep, imagine bending the knee to a guy who views you as a DEI hire that should never have happened. Apple's corporate values are the antithesis of everything for which the current administration stands, and it will be interesting to see how much Cook is willing to cave in the name of keeping up profits.
