Apple cut too much by removing MagSafe from the iPhone 16e

    Meh.
First, wired charging is better. Period. It’s faster, more reliable and more efficient. Even with mag safe you can only get about 75% efficiency with wireless charging. Note that if you have a case it will be even worse, so you’re throwing away 25% of the power every time you charge. Unless you’re too lazy to plug in your phone in which case you have bigger issues and I can’t help you.

As far as accessories go it’s really not an issue. I have a mag safe wallet that I love but it connects to my case. I suspect the majority of people have a case on their phone so the number of people who will be affected by this is likely quite small.

As far as StandBy goes, I was really excited to see it since I have my phone on my nightstand as a clock. Except it turns off after several minutes (according to Apple there’s a setting to leave it on but I have yet to find it) The end result is I use a 3rd party clock app. I plug my phone in every night, use the clock app and it works perfectly.

StandBy hasn't been lost because the iPhone 16e doesn't have MagSafe.  StandBy without the always-on display is pointless.  The magic of StandBy comes from the combination of MagSafe and always-on, and the 16e has neither.

I disagree with your first two statements.

    1) Better is subjective. If I found wired charging better I wouldn't have MagSafe charging next to my bed, next to my guest beds, in my car, or in a travel case. I can't even imagine having to plug-in my Apple Watch every day. Nothing against wired charging and I do use it on occasion, but wireless wins out every day which you can easily say is objectively better for my subjective needs.

    2) I assume you didn't mean to suggest that all wired charging is faster than all Qi charging, and I hope you meant that Apple offers wired charging in a given device that is faster than their wireless charging assuming you are using the appropriate PSU, but it doesn't read that way. I still see the old Apple 5V 1A PSUs all over the place with new iPhones. People had a shitload when buying iPods and then iPhones every year when the charges were rapid... and Apple smartly doesn't include the PSU with those mobile devices.

I would say it's not uncommon to see someone with a 15W MagSafe charger that tis also using a 5, 10, or 12V PSU from an old iPod, iPhone, or iPad for travel because of their size. Personally, I don't  have any because I've given them all to family members with a kids so they can charge nearly everywhere in the house. Those kids tend to use older devices that 1) don't have stellar battery life compared to newer devices, and 2) being old have batteries that have been through a lot of cycles. I much prefer to have GaN PSUS for better speeds and smaller size, but someone needs to know why that's a benefit and want to spend money on one.

Yeah, the lack of MagSafe is truly perplexing. I understand needing to differentiate between the premium models and the lower end models. But at this point MagSafe has been set up as a default feature across the lineup and many people even with older iPhones have a bunch of accessories that take advantage of it. If the point is to get people who’ve been holding on to older phones to upgrade, this seems like a huge step back.
I have a 12 mini.  In the 4+ years I've had it, I've never had the desire to buy MagSafe accessories for it.  The space on my (physical) desktop is too precious...

You do you, but I am curious how your desktop space plays into it if space is too precious. Does that mean you simply don't charge your desktop because of the aforementioned preciousness of the spaces or does your only mention of you desktop mean it's the only place you ever charge your phone?

Personally, when I have space I want to save, like my nightstand, I use a MagSafe dock so I can have it standing on edge without having to bother balancing it. It also means getting it to charge more easily than with a cable or laying flat on a non-MagSafe Qi charger. This was especially appreciated not too longer ago after a very long day of travel that kept getting delayed and finally getting home in the middle of the night very exhausted.

If you don’t want it, you won’t want it. That’s perfectly fine (not that you need my blessing or anything, lol).

But I would like to say (if your physical desktop space is too precious): MagSafe might actually be quite useful for you. You can easily and securely stick the MagSafe puck to a wall next to your desk and then your MagSafe charger and iPhone are completely off your desk (and fully out of the way) while charging. Such a use case is a fairly-common one for MagSafe users.

Again, if you won’t want it, you don’t want it. However, if your desktop space is something you are concerned about, you can get your phone and charging cable off your desk and on to a typically-unused surface like the aforementioned wall next to your desk or the side of a refrigerator or maybe the side of the nightstand next to your bed. Any number of things/places that like that.

So... I'd be buying a MS dock for my desk, and one for my night stand, and one for the car?
I don't have a fear of cables, so I'll just keep using what's been working for the last 14 years...

I mean… you don’t need to be sarcastic about it. I was just politely replying to your comment. You are the one that specifically mentioned how precious your desktop space was. Although maybe you were being sarcastic about that a well. I don’t know anymore.

But no, you don’t need to buy multiple MagSafe docks for your home. You can if you want, but that’s not necessary. You can just get some inexpensive double-sided adhesive. The type specifically made for hanging things on walls (that also won’t cause damage to or leave residue on whatever surface you are adhering it to). You can find some any office supply store, hardware store, or Walmart or such.

Again, you do you, but your first comment was about space being precious which made your comment ambiguous as to whether for you that meant you didn't want a phone on the desk or all or felt that an upright dock would somehow take up more space.

What you're talking about now is cost. If cost is the issue I think that's a more valid argument over space. I have docks in my guest bedrooms that allow for an Apple Watch, AirPods, and iPhone to use inductive charging, as well as separate USB-C cable for charging an Android phone or iPad.
