Shame about the GOP and the Dems who seem completely incapable of mounting any sort of response, let alone an attack. Why is everyone frightened of the guy? Very odd.
As a non-American living in a Westminster-style democracy, it baffles me why there is no nominated or effective opposition leader on the Democrats side. In Westminster parliamentary democracies it’s convention for there to be not only an opposition leader but also shadow ministers for all the leading roles in government. But there is so much about American democracy that is not only strange it should be (and is) flat-out illegal in other democracies, such as gerrymandering and unlimited undisclosed financing because of loopholes to name just a few. America has no centralised electoral commission to provide and enforce consistent and fair elections across the country, so it’s left up to courts which, for some reason are highly politicised with out even a pretence of impartiality. America would benefit from ranked-choice/preferential (instant runoff) voting as well, which I think happens in some states but not many.
At this point calling the US a flawed democracy (see democracy index) seems generous. It’s really more of a hybrid regime in my opinion.
Tim Cook should tell Musk and Trump that he’s quite capable of running a large company and that their interference is not required. Bearing in mind Trump is not good at running businesses and Musk is just a chancer who buys other people’s ideas and companies, I think I’d trust Tim much more. Tim is also considerably more honest, though that isn’t much of a compliment, on reflection.
Trump is, after all, just a guy with a big mouth and the sooner more people stand up to him the better.

Except for maybe two or three Democrats most of the Democrats currently behaved like Schumer they think that if they just be nice someone on the other side will see the light of day, and wake up but you notice they don’t, most other than Liz Cheney don’t say anything until they retire and leave office and that’s too late. we currently live in the second Joseph McCarthy era except there isn’t an Edward R Murrow to break us out of the spell.
Musk and Trump have been eliminating oversight on so many government agencies it boggles the mind. Agency heads are constantly being replaced by unqualified stooges who are constantly stepping on their own *&%#s and having to try to walk back huge missteps. This was not done in any spirit of "fair competition". Corruption is the word, and it's routinely ignored by a shocking number of the population. It will only get worse.
Of course after I say the thread has been mostly level headed, we get a sharp right turn. Believe what you like, but don't post such extremely biased misinformation that is also incredibly off topic. This isn't a political forum. If you like Trump and Musk, talk about it elsewhere. If you don't like them, talk about it elsewhere. It's one thing to make your opinion known as a part of a greater on topic post, but don't make your whole post about trying to prove your agenda is the right one and everyone else is wrong.
Especially in today's climate. Kind of hard to make a sound argument for what's happening in the United States today and this isn't the place for it.
And it isn't fake news just because you don't like it. That kind of ignorant bullshit is why people make fun of those kinds of comments. Sure, maybe you'd like to have the news substantiated by a statement (that won't likely be made) but that doesn't mean it isn't true, and it is a valid point to make. However, your valid point is lost when it is filled with ignorant rhetoric and buzzwords i.e. "Fake News."
Remember, you're more than welcome to *not* make a post on a thread you're particularly upset about. If you can't have a political discussion without using silly insults flung around by extremist news networks, don't post about political content. Simple.
Edit 1: Also, posts referring to this as "fake news" have been deleted. It is a banned term, and by suggesting the source is making it up, it in turn suggests our coverage of it is illegitimate.
Edit 2: Sorry AppleZulu, while your comment was a warranted response, it is to a post that has been deleted, so the thread is gone too.

Aw, man! I was just getting ready to post a detailed rebuttal, including this (ensmallened so as to be unreadable and thus maybe/hopefully be acceptable - I understand if not): Yes, an example of Brandolini's Law in action.
From the quoted WSJ article: "The potential partners Apple has courted >make up for their aging infrastructure< with regional and global spectrum rights they have spent years looking to monetize.
The Starlink Infrastructure is anything but "aging" in comparison. Apple should go with the cutting edge Tech.

That's a question of what's best on balance. The others may be "aging tech," but as it says, they have spectrum rights, and by virtue of having been around for those years they've been looking to monetize it, they're also likely to still be around in the future.
Startlink is indeed newer tech, but particularly with the actions of their CEO over the last few years, it's questionable whether they'll still be operating in five years. Apple might find it too risky to hitch themselves to that particular wagon. To Startlink's credit, their satellites are actually designed to eventually drop out of their very low orbit and burn up when they cease to function, but that could happen much sooner than would be desirable if their CEO follows his current trajectory and burns up on reentry his own self.

Your janitorial work is appreciated in any case.
