Like I have repeatedly stated on this site and others, . Apple would not be harmed by these tariffs.  It’s amazing how people still do not understand how Trump operates and what his intentions are even after him being president for 4+ years.   Many view him as incompetent or corrupt and greedy but he is just following his America First policies and truly is trying to put America in a better position.  Those suffering from TDS will never see this.
You don't seem to know what he is doing either, you certainly haven't shown any sort of insight via your comments. All you do is fawn over Dear Leader .... Pretty stand cult member behavior. No substance, just attacking anyone that dare question Dear Leader. Let us know when you get off your knees have any things of substance to say.

By "his America first policies" you mean destroying USA and alienating all of its allies?
    But he destroyed America first!

Trump's Tariff/Sales Tax is modeled on the Tariff Taxes levied on Americans before income taxes were instituted in 1935. The Tariff Taxes are, per Project 2025, meant to replace the income tax.

    - Under Trump’s Tariff/Sales Tax Plan people living paycheck to paycheck will pay 27% of their incomes in tariff and sales taxes.
    - Those wealthy enough to save 1/2 of their incomes will pay 13.5% of their incomes in tariff and sales taxes.
    - Billionaires who invest most of their incomes pay next to nothing in taxes relative to their incomes.

Tariffs will bankrupt farms and small businesses allowing billionaires and venture capitalists to buy property for pennies on the dollar. Home ownership will become a footnote in history. Neo-feudalists led by their intellectual guru, Curtis Yarvin, tout a corporate monarchy in which all but a very few billionaires and millionaires live in indentured servitude at the beck and call of the upper classes. They want to bring back the Middle Ages and make themselves our lieges.

But all is not lost. We will still have our iPhones on which to watch cat videos.

And did he? Did he put America in a better position?

The answer to that is "no," and that will become increasingly obvious as things made outside the US leap up in price, above and beyond the inflation he hasn't done anything about either.

He has shown the world that he is erratic, incompetent, and a liar. While I'm delighted that this reversal will benefit US tech companies, and while I support the idea of bringing more manufacturing back to the US where it is practical and possible to do so, this move is only a move back to the status quo under the previous administration.

The fact that Russia was specifically excluded from ANY of these tariff shenanigans should tell Americans who is really running the US these days. An uninhabited island ruled by penguins got slapped with tariffs, but not Russia.

    Draw your own conclusions, folks.

That's because Russia is at war. :\ How much did he impose on Ukraine?

The problem is these people have been drawing their own conclusions for too long. Science, research, and facts mean nothing so long as they feel a certain way and they can find another sorry soul who will agree with them. Unfortunately this unchecked Information Society in which we live has allowed propaganda machines to spew fear for viewership under the guise of news... until they get called out legally, at which point they claim they are mearly entertainers and that no one should take what they say as factual (I really wish that was even a little bit of an exaggeration).

This isn't new. Back in the 70s they thought things were already out of hand (see video below), but little did they know. I can't imagine what another 50 years will look like

One of the primary reasons for these tariffs is to create another revenue stream, in large part paid for by American consumers, to offset the huge tax breaks the current administration is planning to gift to the rich.

The “fairness,” trade imbalance, “America is the Victim” crap is just that, total crap and a distraction to hide what is really going on. In essence the tariffs are simply another form of sales tax on consumers. Using the word “tariff” instead of “tax” is clever word play. But no matter how much sugar you sprinkle on a turd, It’s still a turd.

Another facet of this tariff scam, in the context that it is being implemented, is a vehicle to force loyalty to the authoritarian regime and its boss. By selectively granting exemptions from tariffs for certain companies, the boss is buying compliance and servitude from these blessed few to stay in the good graces of the person they are beholden to. The party gift was only the beginning of getting any attention at all.

But, you know how the next part goes …

Someday Tim, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me.

I suspect that service may start with a little knock on the back door, followed by “Let me in.”

    10%

AFAIK Russia and North Korea were the only two countries excluded from the tariffs.

Edit: Forgot to mention Canada and Mexico are NOT on the so-called “reciprocal tariffs” list.

This ‘president’ is a disaster to the world. He has no real strategy, economists are baffled by his idiotic actions and constant flip-flopping.

Even more so, his entire corrupt administration have clearly benefited from their own actions through insider trading. They belong in jail and their assets being taken. Unfortunately in the USA, the rich are untouchable. You can buy yourself out of the law there.
    Absolutely true. Corruption run amok.
I find it interesting that around 30 years ago Star Trek invented the Ferengi, a completely corrupt, mercantile society whose morality was driven only by profit. They were created as a parody and a warning. Now we have someone with Ferengi sensibilities leading the US. What’s next, creating the Torment Nexus for fun and profit?
I would infinitely prefer to have Quark as president rather than Trump.

It's lickspittles that have TDS, not the people that don't want a narcissistic rapist and felon who has profited from his politcal position, use charities to launder money, stolen from taxpayers, and countless other crimes.

One of the rare occasions that Trump has been honest has been when he said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a single vote. You are one of those people. You are probably one of those people that look at the turnout of his rallies and say, "clearly Trump has more votes," without the faintest comprehension that most people don't attend such things. That's probably why you still believe Trump won the election in 2020 that he clearly lost despite him trying to cheat... outside of him telling you that he actually won by more votes in human history.

Seriously, what crimes would it take for you to not to be on his side? You used to post about libertarianism ideals where you simply wanted smaller gov't that didn't interfere in our lives. It was always myopic because you failed to have a path for that outcome or see how things would cascade in negative ways as a result, but at least it had a focus on smaller gov't. Now it's simply your TDS where whatever that idiot says has to brilliant, even when he contradicts himself — sometimes mid-sentence — and when he's destroying the lives of the American people.

Enough with your jingoistic "America first" BS. You don't really believe that or you wouldn't be on board with countless people losing their livelihoods or people who are in the US legally being sent to a high security prison in a country they've never been to.

PS: Stop falling for this lie that the American people are being victimized by every other nation on earth (which is an oblate spheroid, BTW, not flat). That isn't to say that the American people aren't being wronged, but it's from within. But despite being the victim you still have a personal responsibility to not allow yourself to be victimized. Think of the people who fall for stupid phishing scams because they lacked the critical thinking and due diligence to not realize that bayareafastrak.org-pay.scam iisn't a valid website for San Franciso's FasTrak website.
They like him because of the fact that he is a criminal and that he always gets away with it.

Cuba and Belarus are also members of the U.S. non-tariff zone. Ukraine - exporting less than Russia - got hit by 10%.
There is a 20% tariff on SSDs but 145% on memory cards affecting U.S. photographers. Governments are not supposed to work like this or be allowed to.

Unfortunately AAPL won’t come all the way back because the market understands that a successful Apple requires a healthy economy and confident consumers.

The trick will be selling at the peak before DJT does the next genius thing.

Computers and smartphones are clear (until his whim changes). Does anyone c know if this exemption covers tablets? The documents I found on this refers to ‘goods under these categories’ which means nothing to me. Does anyone know?

Pathetic. The Trumpists are not even right-wing or conservative in the normal sense, just tribal, recklessly macho and inept.

What's more, Americans knew who they were voting for last year because they watched him for four years, and then he reminded them last year who he was and told them what he was going to do in his second term.

They voted for him anyway and now their prices will rise because of the tariffs, many of them will lose their jobs because of the recession and their retirement savings will shrink because of the stock market decline, caused by the combination of uncertainty and the coming stagflation.

No, you said that the world has been ripping the US off and that Apple needs to bring manufacturing back to the US. Trump giving in yet again with this exemption doesn't hurt China and doesn't bring "jobs" back to the US. But nice try.

So pray tell why he didn’t just exempt smartphones, computers, etc., in the first place? I can only think of two reasons, myself. Impulsive stupidity, and/or stock manipulation for the purpose of insider trading.  Have you got a better explanation?

Wrong. I said all of the above - including that Apple would sail through due to exemptions. Mike W. even commented directly telling me "it's not going to go the way I think it will go" in response to one of my posts on the matter. I also added late that The USA has indeed been getting ripped in world trade forever now and that it's about time someone stands up to global bullies. Manufacturing does belong back in the USA - but also elsewhere. America doesn't need to abdicate all manufacturing. Much healthier to be both a product AND services economy. The fact is Trump is very easy to read and to predict when you realize that he has America's best interests at heart ad takes action accordingly. It is no surprise that he initiated reciprocal tariffs or that he paused them when the word wanted to make a deal. It's also not shocking at all that he kept up the tariffs on China, but did so in a way that doesn't hurt American companies (though it also weakens the tariff impact on China) - who he is doing this on behalf of. It's the art of the deal in action - set an extreme goal, get them scrambling, then when the entrenched positions are broken, maneuver the chess pieces, keep them guessing, and settle on the realistic area you wanted all along.I know it's popular on this site to hate on the man, but it doesn't make much sense.

As I have been saying all along, Apple is going to be OK. They have someone standing up for them on the global stage. I have a sneaking suspicion that more is to come with the EU as well.

Oh, F*CK ME with this announcement! Trump promised me a great manufacturing job screwing in tiny screws on the iPhone and now he just pulls the rug out from under that dream?! Promises made and broken! Who the hell is gonna pay me back now for the expensive set of precision screwdrivers I bought?!
