The fact that the usa gets 30% out of this whole China only gets 10% is quite the “art of the deal.”
you could kind of read the Chinese ministers faces exiting the negotiations thst it was something like this.
People forget how powerful the United States really is.
will be interesting if progress is made on rare earth.
Hopefully this means apple can breathe easier while continuing to diversify the supply chain and get serious about efforts at home.
The only way you can think this is a "deal" is if you didn't actually knew what the tariff rates were prior to the trade war. And since Cult member aren't exactly known for being informed, we can safely assume you have no clue where we were at trade wise prior to the trade war. I'll catch you up, Trump completely capitulated to China and U.S. companies and customers are stuck paying the bill. Our tariffs on China are higher and Chinese tariffs the didn't exist four months ago are still there. We literally got nothing but higher prices, and y'all think we won something. This is almost as embarrassing as when you made up a story about getting a pay raise to make a point about income tax only to announce the the world that you don't understand the U.S. tax code or how a progressive tax works.
Um…
let’s take last year.
We charged Chinese exports 20%. Some tarriffs were 34%.
China charged us 30%. Some items had a 67% tarriff.
Now, we gain 10% and they lose 20% from the lowest set point.
The USA loses only 4% from the highest and China loses 57%. That’s a fantastic deal for America. No matter if you are rooting for the usa or for China.
It’s not just looking at the recent crazy hikes.
It’s a great deal for the usa.
And it sets the tone for a more even snd fair deal to come.
The president talked with Tim Cook this morning.
None of the targeted tariffs that China put in place prior to the trade war or since have been touched. They all remain as high as they ever were. So when you say things like "Some items had a 67% tariff." Those tariffs are still 67%. All the products China banned from being imported in the last few months are still banned from import. All the products China banned from being exported are still banned from being exported. So, China gave up very little. They dropped their base tariff rate to 10% and kept all the other higher tariffs and restrictions, many of which were not in place before this nonsense started. Dear Leader raised tariffs to 145%, panicked when his approval rating tanked and looked for the nearest exit and lowered tariffs by 115 points to slightly above where we were when this started. By far Dear Leader conceded almost 100% of what he had done and the Chinese didn't. Why? Because the Chinese played chess while Dear Leader was trying to figure out what day of the week Sunday falls on. Targeted tariffs and restrictions were the smart play and Dear Leader got outplayed.
Did he reach any of his stated goals? He wanted to reduce the trade deficit, the trade deficit has gone up since his term started. He wanted to repatriate manufacturing, no new manufacturing announced and some U.S. companies had to halt manufacturing and lay off workers. Other bonuses, GDP is down, government spending has surpassed the previous administration at the same point in time, inflation has spiked, the market has crashed and hiring has slowed. When confronted with his disastrous policies, Dear Leader's response was to say that American kids need fewer dolls or put another way "Americans are greedy and have too much" meanwhile 50% of Americans are reporting that they have to use BNPL loans for essentials, with 30% having to use BNPL for groceries.
Of course, what do we expect from an 80-year-old whose cognitive abilities have evaporated? Two weeks ago, he claimed he had made trade deals with 200 countries despite there not being 200 countries to make deals with. Last week, he was proudly boasting about his deal with the U.K. and how it was the first of many deals to come. Over the course of two weeks, he was confused by how many countries there are and wasn't sure if he had made 200 deals or one.
Of course, you will mindlessly defend the guy. The lies don't matter. That economy is objectively worse doesn't matter. That people's lives are measurably worse doesn't matter. It's how you know you are in a cult; reality doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is defending Dear Leader.
USA wins yet another trade deal, and this one where everyone said china would never cave. Now 90 days to make it permanent and help our farmers with more china purchases like last time. Impressive
Last time? Are you talking about Trump's 1st term? Farmers needed $28 billion in taxpayer funded bailouts during Trump's first term.
I don’t think there’s much of a point confronting cult members with actual facts. It’s like dealing with scientology or jehovah’s witnesses.
You don't do it for the cult members, there is no convincing them to walk away. Some of them may wake up but they kind of have to get there on their own. You call it out so others will see it for what it is and will be less likely to be sucked into the cult.
$1.5 trillion trade deficit? How did we get into this mess. That Buffon is doing something about my kids future, otherwise America will be gone. Debt up to our noses. $36 trillion and nobody is mentioning and not even Apple can survive.
That buffoon is making sure your kids won’t have a future. You mention debt, you should look into each government’s contributions to it. Every single republican administration has increased the debt significantly (the trump one being the worst offender) while dems fix it. Look it up, genius.

That's not how any of this works. The national debt and trade deficit are two very different things. Also, everything is now more expensive and scarce versus before the current administration took over.
A $45 million parade being held on Trump's birthday. Four $55 million F18 jets in the Red Sea after the administration kept extending the Truman's deployment, exhausting sailors to the point of breaking. Over $18 million spent on golf alone since January with estimates around $60 million if you include travel costs and his frequent visits to his home in Florida. Biden was being attacked by right wing media for spending an estimated $11 million across two years of his presidency.
But yeah, Trump is saving us all kinds of money. Art of the Deal or whatever cultish nonsense people keep saying.
The fact that the usa gets 30% out of this whole China only gets 10%
This isn't a deal. Americans are paying more for goods. We're just back to where things were before Trump took office, except everything is 10% more expensive for Americans. China lost nothing in this. And it isn't even a deal, it's a pause on tariffs from the US, which means China reduced their reciprocal tariffs caused by Trump from 145% to 10% to match the pause rate. No negotiations were made.
We're losing like we did when he tried this in the first term.
Hopefully this means apple can breathe easier while continuing to diversify the supply chain and get serious about efforts at home.
Not happening. Apple isn't bringing any extensive portion of the supply chain home. The effort would take decades to even get the factories built, let alone training the humans to operate it (if you can find anyone willing to dedicate their lives to it). The result would be an iPhone being built here in 20 years that cost $8,000. Great. The world will have moved on from smartphones by then anyway, so why waste time chasing that result? Even Cue suggested iPhone might be rendered obsolete by some kind of technology in a decade.
I don't know why this is hard for anyone to understand. These tariffs imposed by Trump are having the opposite effect. No one can buy anything when it is too expensive, so the tariffs aren't being paid (by Americans), so our debt isn't being paid for. And tariffs are making it so expensive to build factories and source materials, that no one can afford to build in the United States anyway.
All the tariffs are doing is chasing industry and commerce away from the United States, emptying our shelves, causing mass job loss, and upending what was the world's greatest economic force (Prior to Trump).
Are empty cargo ships and no jobs for truck drivers really not setting off alarm bells?

Over here on planet Earth, Trump said “no” just a couple of days ago to a reporter who asked about lowering tariffs, while China said they wouldn’t talk at all UNLESS tariffs were lowered.

So sick and tired of this criminal orange turd, his family of dimwit cokeheads, and the shit show this country has become. We’re the laughingstock of the world.
And it sets the tone for a more even snd fair deal to come.
Both sides reduced by 115%-points. China didn't give some extra discount US didn't already have. US already caved in with reduced tariffs on electronics. Inbound tariffs are still higher than before.
Moving production seems to be between other countries. Apple isn't moving manufacturing to the US.
Moving from China does require billions in investments that wouldn't have been needed - so taking profits from Apple.
Apple was capable of running an efficient production without federal intervention. The tariffs push Apple to less efficient solutions. Either due to 14 days more shipping, other logistics, salaries, skills, flexibility,... it simply won't be as efficient as when Apple was in control.
To conclude: There are no US jobs created by Apple in manufacturing, there are short-term expenses, and products will become more expensive to manufacture. There is no upside to Apple or users on any of these tariffs.
